This Friday, SFJAZZ presents Latin jazz master percussionist, educator, activist, and composer John Santos and his highly memorable 60th Birthday Celebration in November 2015. This all-star concert featured his longstanding sextet and a number of special guests including Santana trombonist Jeff Cressman, violinist Anthony Blea, vocalist Destani Wolf, and timbales great Orestes Vilató, a salsa pioneer and member of the Fania Allstars who helped found Santos’ GRAMMY-nominated Machete Ensemble. Santos will also be celebrating the release of his new album Art of the Descarga, out this Friday via Smithsonian Folkways Records.

Born out of the COVID-19 crisis as a way to support musicians in need and to keep SFJAZZ strong for the future, Fridays at Five is a new membership-based online series that brings people closer to the music through engaging hour-long broadcasts of exclusive SFJAZZ Center concerts that stream every Friday at 5 PM PT. Conceived to create a unique shared experience, each event features real-time chats with artists, jazz fans, and SFJAZZ Members.
Starting at just $5 for one-month or $60 annually, you can sign up and tune in each Friday at 5 PM (PT).

The National Endowment for the Arts, in collaboration with SFJAZZ, will host a special online-only concert in honor of the 2020 NEA Jazz Masters—Dorthaan Kirk, Bobby McFerrin, Roscoe Mitchell, and Reggie Workman. The 2020 NEA Jazz Masters Tribute Concert is free to watch at SFJAZZ.org and arts.gov, and will replace the previously-scheduled concert at the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco that was postponed due to COVID-19.
Hosted by 2017 NEA Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater will emcee this premier event coordinated by Musical Director, drummer, and composer Terri Lyne Carrington, which will include performances by acclaimed jazz musicians—including honorees McFerrin, Mitchell, and Workman—recorded from locations around the country.
