Inheritance opens January 21!

January 21 7:30-9pm

Join us at the Art Gallery of Alberta on January 21st from 7:30-9pm for a special opening event to celebrate the curators and artists of the new exhibition: Inheritance.

The works in Inheritance demonstrate that events in history continue to reverberate through time, impacting both the present and future. The artists in the exhibition uncover the histories of the anti-Black racism, the KKK, the internment of Canadians of Japanese descent across western Canada and the tragedy of the Indian Residential School system, told through the artists’ research into the lives of family members and familial connections. Their works seek to hold us true to the past as the only way to move forward.

The exhibition is organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta and curated by Catherine Crowston and Lindsey Sharman and features the work of:

This exhibition is presented with the generous support of Capital Power as part of the Capital Powered Art program.

Crit Night with Emily Jan and the Edmonton Art Club

Crit Night with Emily Jan and the Edmonton Art Club

Thursday, January 20

5pm MST

Are you a visual artist looking for some feedback on your artwork? Join us on January 20th for an evening of supportive critique led by visual artist and teacher Emily Jan with members from the Edmonton Art Club. This public crit will occur in Manning Hall at the AGA starting at 5pm and ending shortly before 7pm and is open to all artists. As part of the public program for Making Art, Building Community: 100 Years of the Edmonton Art Club, we wanted to invite local artists to experience a critique much like the ones the Edmonton Art Club host regularly. We will have several easels and some tables to display the work, and registered artists will receive a short group crit. Please note that each artist should bring one artwork that can be displayed readily on an easel or table. Small to medium work is recommended since the work needs to be easily moved and carried into the gallery.

This program is free; however, registering in advance is required.
