Taproot Theatre combines the worlds of Sherlock Holmes and Ebenezer Scrooge in A Sherlock Carol

Directed by Bretteney Beverly, this festive production opens after Thanksgiving

SEATTLE, WA — November 6, 2025 — Taproot Theatre presents A Sherlock Carol by Mark Shanahan on its mainstage this holiday season. Combining characters from the minds of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Charlies Dickens, this festive production runs November 26–December 27, 2025, in Taproot’s Jewell Mainstage Theatre (204 N 85th St, Seattle, WA 98103).

The world-famous miser is dead, to begin with… and Sherlock Holmes is seeing ghosts. Retired after Moriarty’s death, Holmes is pulled back into action because of a missing gem, strange visions, and a ghostly visitor. With help from Scrooge and a host of other beloved characters, Holmes unravels a twisty tale of Christmas carols and confections in this witty, heartwarming, and surprising mashup of Dickens and Doyle.

Associate Artistic Director Bretteney Beverly directs A Sherlock Carol, a clever adaptation that reimagines the themes and characters of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol through the lens of Sherlock Holmes. “This production is a true holiday party with good old-fashioned Christmas cheer,” said Bretteney Beverly. “We’re excited to bring back the beloved mashup of Holmes and Scrooge after Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Carol in 2012.”

This production stars Aaron Lamb as Sherlock Holmes, a brilliant and passionate detective who feels lost after the death of his nemesis, and Andrew Litzky as Ebenezer Scrooge, the once notorious miser who is now a generous man. When Scrooge dies, Holmes is called upon to investigate his mysterious death. The cast is rounded out by William Eames, Arika Matoba, Tyler Campbell, and Helen Harvester, who each play multiple characters like Dr. Tim Cratchit, Emma Wiggins, Dr. Watson, and more. Understudies include Jeff Allen Pierce, Ays Garcia, and Llysa Holland.
