COLORFUL CHICAGO

There’s a wide variety of housing types in Chicago. Five are especially common and give the city’s neighborhoods a unique architectural feel. Download our mini coloring book and fill in a beautiful drawing of each type, either by printing them out or coloring them onscreen using a tablet.

Previously on “Storytime with the CAC,” CAC Manager of School and Family Programs Rebecca Boland brought you “Mighty, Mighty Construction Site” by Sherri Duskey Rinker. This Friday, May 8 at 12:30pm Central Time, tune into the CAC’s Facebook page to read the 1971 classic “Apt. 3” written and illustrated by Ezra Jack Keats.

CAC RECOMMENDS

CAC Recommends

Spring is here and many of us hope to spend at least some of it outside. What factors determine how a city’s open spaces look and feel—and which neighborhoods they’re in? We’re grabbing our gardening gloves and digging into this week’s installment of CAC Recommends.

ONE MORE THING

Last month, CAC Program Operations Specialist Ian Spula had five questions for Casey Jones of Industry Council partner member Perkins and Will. Spula’s latest interviewee is award-winning author, historian preservationist and planner Julia Bachrach, who has seven answers about parks—and a new companion named Tippy Pickles.

Alongside NLA’s Peter Murray, Kent Martinussen of the Danish Architecture Centre and Ben Prosky of AIA New York and the Center for Architecture, Osmond discussed the impact of COVID-19 on each of their cities, as well as the behavior and expectations of urban residents.
