"Aurora is a pillar of theatre in the Bay Area. I have been honored to perform there many times in some of my favorite roles of my career. The Aurora Theatre has long been seen as the actor's theatre. A place where you could stretch and grow. There is no hiding on that stage, you must be present in every moment! This is how it was conceived, an intimate space to wrestle with ideas, language and life."

"They have supported me as an artist in ways that are tangible and intangible. Eureka Day! taught me what truly listening is. I would not be the artist I am without my time there. The loss of this vital creative space would leave a gaping hole in our community and ecosystem." — Elizabeth Carter, Director
Cal Shakes Resident Dramaturg, Dr. Philippa Kelly, lists the many gifts Aurora Theatre has given to the Bay Area

"In great theatre we see our human paradoxes – the most misaligned and yet viscerally in-built parts of ourselves – writ large on the stage. We experience the discomforts, the big questions, the ironies, the tragedies, of being human. This is what I’ve always known I’d get at the Aurora Theatre. From Neil La Bute’s Fat Pig and This is How it Goes, to Master Harold and the Boys, to Leni, Eureka Day!, Luna Gale, Born With Teeth (a few of the magnificent productions that roll in off the top of my head), you can drop in at the Jazz Café across the road to get a snack, then settle in at the Aurora just inches away from some of the Bay Area’s great treasures: Aldo Billingslea, Stacy Ross, Leontyne MBele MBong, L. Peter Callender, Adrian Roberts, Joseph O’Malley, Margo Hall, Martha Brigham, William Hodgson, Sam Jackson, Dean Linnard, and Brady Morales-Woolery are just a few of the names that spring to mind in a long list of actors who have inspired me to go away from a night at the theatre thinking about the world just a little bit (or a lot) differently. This is a gift beyond price — we have to save our psyches by saving the Aurora!" — Philippa Kelly, Resident Dramaturg

The Fire Light Tea Party is an immersive, educational and artistically inspiring event, supporting Bay Area communities to recalibrate our relationship to fire, in actionable, effective and enjoyable ways!
Within the environments we live among and within ourselves, fire has so much to teach us. So as we prepare for more consistent fire seasons we look to practices of the past and opportunities in the future, to steward our partnership with this powerful element. We will pair art and entertainment with usable resources and community connection to bring about an amazing experience for all who attend.
