When I joined the AAN Advisory Board, I thought deeply about what role I could play in effectively reaching others who have no knowledge of or are unfamiliar with AAN.

I have long had a strong interest in jazz, and I’ve enjoyed the CSO concerts I’ve attended. I hope that AAN will continue to be a space where those more experienced and entrenched in orchestral music can share that knowledge with new audiences. I’ve always felt you don’t have to be a music major or musician to appreciate the beauty of music. In the cancer community we encourage those going through the trauma of cancer treatment to bring music with them during treatment. Music has been shown scientifically to reduce anxiety during treatment. Similarly, in-person events create opportunities for conversation and dialogue. I look forward to collaborating with my fellow members of the AAN Advisory Board to engage new and returning music lovers with the AAN.

Planning for the 2023/24 Season is currently underway, led by members of the African American Network Advisory Board. Our first meeting was held on June 29 in the Conductor’s Room at Forte at Symphony Center.
