HONOLULU, HAWAI‘I— In celebration of May Day, the Honolulu Museum of Art welcomes the inimitable Raiatea Helm and some of her closest musical friends to the Central Courtyard stage for an evening of music, hula, art, food, and community. The event is presented in collaboration with Helm.

Magnetic actor and musician Joshua “Baba” Tavares, known for his appearances in "‘Auana" and "Rescue HI Surf," will emcee the evening, and guests are encouraged to come dressed in aloha attire. Evening highlights include performances by two-time Grammy nominee Raiatea Helm and her favorite fellow performers—Hālau Nā Wainohia, led by principal kumu hula Tony K. Conjugacion, the Kilia Trio, and Ei Nei—capping off the night with a joint closing act.
Guests can also indulge in local fare from Haleiwa’s Local Poke Bowl, such as ‘ahi katsu and spam musubi, as well as eat in-house at the HoMA Café. Dinner specials for the evening include kalua pork and cabbage, seafood laulau, and chicken long rice, along with select offerings from their regular dinner menu.
Ambassadors from Hawaiian Host will hold interactive activities in the Mediterranean courtyard, where guests can take a behind-the-scenes look at the iconic brand alongside samples of their signature chocolates.
To inspire the communal stewardship of our ‘āina, the night will feature a collaborative art activity led by HoMA’s Community Programs Teacher Janet Tran. Participants will contribute to a collective fabric lei, reflecting the values of generosity, aloha, and connection in place and community.
In addition to May Day programming, guests can discover the work of Toshiko Takaezu, who famously found inspiration in nature, especially the Hawaiian landscape, in the exhibition "Toshiko Takaezu: Worlds Within." In the Arts of Hawai‘i Gallery, guests can learn about the history of art in Hawai‘i, from traditional arts such as kapa and lei hulu to contemporary works by local artists like Sean K. L. Brown.
The Honolulu Museum of Art is a gathering place where art, education and community converge in two iconic buildings in the heart of Honolulu. Presenting its remarkable collection and innovative exhibitions in the galleries, screening the best in new and classic cinema and offering a full curriculum of studio art classes, HoMA is a vital, transformative part of Hawai‘i’s cultural landscape accessible to all.
The museum inspires and uplifts the community through transformative art experiences that celebrate creativity, cultivate wonder, foster empathy and enhance knowledge to deepen our connections with one another and the world we share.
