November 13–16
Visiting Portuguese filmmaker Marta Mateus presents her films Fire of Wind (2024) and Barbs, Wastelands (2017), both set in the rural Alentejo region of Portugal where she grew up.
Amid the beauty of the rural landscape, Mateus focuses her attention on the precarious lives of agricultural workers and communicates their stories of endurance and resistance through a combination of portraiture and poetry.
Mateus will also present three works by Margarida Cordeiro and António Reis, Portuguese filmmakers who inspired Mateus's cinematic style and approach.
