HoMA OFFERS SATURDAY ART-MAKING SESSIONS ALL SUMMER
Anyone can join in to make art—included with Museum admission
HONOLULU—From now to Aug. 29, the Honolulu Museum of Art offers art-making activities every Saturday (except July 4), from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. These sessions are included with Museum admission, no additional fee is charged.
Guests of every age are welcome to join in on art projects related to current exhibitions. There will be a new project each month, led by community programs teacher Sami Isidro in the Museumʻs open-air studio in Kīna‘u Courtyard.
“We wanted to create a fun summer experience for folks of all ages visiting the Museum,” says Ariel Gugudan, HoMA’s education and community programs manager.

Here is the schedule of activities:
June 27
Paper weavings: Guests weave
strips of colored paper, mounted on chip board, to create vibrant patterns,
like the fiber art on view in Toshiko
Takaezu: Worlds Within.
July 11, 18, 27
Foam-core sculptures (pictured above): Guests can create sculptures from pieces of foam core cut into an array of shapes with slots in
them, allowing the pieces to be joined together like a giant 3D puzzle. The
shapes of the pieces echo the geometric fields of color found in the woodblock prints in
Views of the
Land: Modern Japanese Landscape Prints and their Literary Origins.
August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
High-contrast prints: Guests
can explore the art principles of line and shape by making prints using
styrofoam. They will scratch designs on styrofoam then ink them up and print on different colors of paper to create high-contrast prints, after gaining inspiration from the photographs on view in the
exhibition Out
of the Shadows.
