“A Christmas Carol continues to be a deeply cherished tradition for the Twin Cities and remains one of the most anticipated moments in every Guthrie season,” said Artistic Director Joseph Haj. “It is a joy to welcome thousands of patrons from Minnesota and beyond to experience the magic and wonder of this timeless tale, with many encountering live theater for the first time.” Haj continued, “I’m thrilled to have Addie Gorlin-Han return to direct this year’s production and lead a tremendous cast as they share this enduring story of hope and kindness with our community.”
In Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, the curmudgeonly Ebenezer Scrooge is visited one cold Christmas Eve by the ghost of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, who warns Scrooge to turn from his callous, hard-hearted ways. That night, three spirits carry Scrooge through time — into the shadows of his past, the fragile realities of the present and the lonely fate that awaits if he doesn't have a change of heart. Featuring original music and bursts of festive joy, this faithful adaptation of the classic novella brings the streets of Victorian London to life, celebrating the transformative power of compassion and second chances.
