Gearing Up Education – Winter Theatre Workshops

This month fall classes for our School Year Program are winding down with showcases for family and friends, but our Winter Theatre Workshops for Ages 4 through Grade 6 are gearing up. Our School Break Workshops return this December after last year’s hiatus. From December 20th—22nd, students Ages 4-6 can explore, create, and play with Starlight Storytime while Grades 1-3 can sing, dance, and use their imaginations with Sing and Dance: Elf & Jingle Jangle. During the week of December 27th—30th, Grades 1-3 can Create a Play: Heroes and Villains while Grades 4-6 can explore their comedic spirit with Spotlight on Slapstick or their singing and dancing prowess with Broadway Unplugged. All our classes have tuition assistance available, and a sharing of skills learned on the last day. More information and online registration is available on our website. Our gearing up doesn’t stop there though. Registration is also open for the Winter Session of our School Year Programs. Classes start January 15 for Age 3 to Grade 12.

Gearing Up Auditions – Tuck Everlasting, TYA

Our March show, Tuck Everlasting, TYA gears up December 13-15 with open auditions for youth actors ages 10-18. Appointments for auditions are available through our website until slots are full. Actors are asked to prepare a song of two minutes or less to be sung a Capella and dress for movement. We encourage actors of all ethnicities, cultures, gender identities, socioeconomic status and (dis)abilities to audition. Tuck Everlasting, TYA, a musical adaptation of the classic middle grade novel by Natalie Babbitt, features live music and a multi-generational cast. It's an adventurous story, set in late 19th century New Hampshire, where 11-year-old Winnie Foster stumbles on the stunning secret of the Tuck family. The show runs from March 4-20, 2022. Tickets available now.

Gearing up Rehearsals – The North Star

Rehearsals geared up on November 30 for The North Star, the second show in our 21-22 season! A cast of 26, along with co-directors Sandy Boren-Barrett and Ann Marie Omeish, Musical Director Sarah Hohenstein-Burk, and 5 choreographers will continue rehearsals until the show opens on January 15. A dance-inspired production based on the award-winning book, The North Star by Peter H. Reynolds, the same book author of The Dot, marks our tenth collaboration with Escalate Dance. This gentle coming-of-age fable featuring a young person embarking on the journey of a lifetime is filled with self-determination, creativity, and hope. The adaptation features a musical score, dialogue, and songs created by Jennifer Kirkeby and James Lekatz, the same playwright/composer team from Stages' productions of The Dot, and The Nightingale. Tickets are on sale now.

Gearing up our Production Staff - New Employee

All this gearing up requires our staff to gear up too, which we have done with hiring Trevor Zapiecki as our new Technical Associate working to design, build, and supervise the technical aspects of our productions. They joined our staff earlier this fall and will be Technical Director on their first show with The North Star. Trevor said, ”I can’t wait to help make the magic happen.” Trevor grew up in the tiny town of Grand Rapids, OH where they did community theatre growing up, but it was not until college that working in the theatre became a passion. Trevor loves that each day working at Stages is different, bringing with it new problems to creatively solve. We welcome Trevor to the Stages creative problem-solving production team!
