MARCH 2020

President's Message, Jean Felder

Are you ready for the Invasion of the Duckies and the Ducky Regatta? The excitement is growing. Adopt 1 duck, many ducks or a mega flock, the choice is yours. It will all help to fund the Philharmonic Society’s Youth Music Education Programs that have reached millions of Orange County’s kids. The Ducky Regatta flyer will appear the week of March 22nd and give all the details you need to be a part of this fun event. The ducks from each Committee/Team will assemble on different days during the week of May 10th for the preliminary races. The first three winners of each team will proceed to the final race on May 26th. There will be ribbons and prizes and lots of fun. Please recruit as many people as you can to enter their duckies in the races. The winners of the final race and the team who sold the most ducks will be announced at the Annual Meeting.

Spring is almost here and the activity of The Committees is picking up. There are plans for fundraisers, a hope that we might be able to meet in-person in late June, elections of new officers, virtual Music Mobile programs in the schools and volunteer opportunities for Orange County Youth Symphony in-person rehearsals. There will also be exciting news next month about the High School Orchestra Festival.

Two Committees have decided a nice way to stay in contact is to deliver goodies to the homes of their members before the monthly meetings. Some Committees continue with monthly entertainment. Somehow, it brings the members closer. If you have a suggestion please send an email to jean-felder@sbcglobal.net.

Karyn Rashoff continues the Scavenger Hunt for instruments needing a renewed purpose. The recipients have been very grateful. Jason Squire and Music and Arts, generous as always, have volunteered the labor to repair these instruments. See the flyer to find out how you can contribute.

Two Huntington Harbour Philharmonic Committee (HHPC) fundraisers are coming up. “A Virtual Wine Tasting Fundraiser” with Bryan Babcock of Babcock Winery and Vineyards on March 26th. Bryan will be the featured speaker. The selection of wines sounds wonderful and it should be a very informative evening. The second event from HHPC is the very popular Tamales fundraiser, “Tamales for Cinco de Mayo.” Order pick-up is scheduled for April 24th and 25th.

Great news, the Music4Kids campaign has raised $22,615.00 of the $25,000.00 match. Please consider contributing so that we can reach the magic number. The form is included.

We need sponsors for the Golf Classic. Even though it is several months away this is the time when potential sponsors should be identified. There are many ways to be a sponsor. They will be featured in multiple places and receive good exposure. Sponsorship begins at $250.00.

The flyers for the fundraisers and Golf Classic are included below.

Stay safe.
