Artist Julie Shunick Brown in front of 2 paintings

For the month of December, we welcome Julie Shunick Brown to the Green-Mezzanine Gallery!

Julie is a Dallas-based contemporary artist who has been painting full time since 2012 after a long career with Procter & Gamble. She grew up in Northern Virginia where she studied drawing and painting with private instructors as well as at the Corcoran School of Art. Brown received a BFA from Arizona State University in 1975 but continued her studies in art after graduation. Her work can be found in galleries and corporate and private collections across the U.S. as well as in Canada and Spain.

Julie's work captures a balance between precision and emotion, inviting viewers into a world of layered color and thoughtful abstraction. It's been described as delicate and ethereal, intuitive and nonobjective, and varies in style.

"We absorb life. Events, encounters, and ideas leave their mark and can confuse and overwhelm. Painting enables me to process...My paintings are intentionally ambiguous. They are not meant to represent specific ideas or to persuade; they simply reflect my ongoing exploration of what I cannot physically see. This enables viewers to interpret the work themselves." - Julie Shunick Brown

A "First Fridays" reception has been scheduled for Friday, December 5. Join us for light bites and meet the artist from 6-8 PM on the second floor of the Eisemann Center lobby.

The gallery is free to view and open to the public every Monday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm and during all public events.
