In the Spotlight

CSO

Zell Family Foundation makes $50 million transformational gift to support CSOA programs, building on a commitment to secure long-term financial stability.

“As an avid supporter of the arts, I understand the importance of philanthropy in filling the gap between earned revenue and operating expenses,” said Helen Zell of the gift. “The generosity of donors will ensure the long-term sustainability of our great cultural institutions that add vitality and beauty to our lives and communities.” Zell added, “I’ve been a champion of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for many years, and I think about this gift as an investment in preserving the CSO’s future.”

Conductor Karina Canellakis

Women’s Board Members contribute $502,000 to the Women’s Board Guest Artist Endowment Fund, which will annually sponsor a guest artist, conductor or composer. This season, the fund supports the appearance of conductor Karina Canellakis in April.

To reach 100% Women’s Board participation, members are encouraged to consider making a one-time gift, an incremental gift in addition to their annual support, an estate gift or a unique combination.

John Bruce Yeh

Significant progress has been made by Governing Members towards endowing a rotating CSO musician chair. To date, $737,000 has been raised towards the $1 million goal for the Governing Members Chair. The inaugural holder of the Governing Members Chair is Assistant Principal Clarinet John Bruce Yeh.
