Hippodrome Creatives Newsletter

Happy May! Hope you're making the most of the sunshine this week

We had a wonderful evening hosting Writer's Block last week, thanks so much to Liam, Simon and Rachel for sharing their work! ✨

We're back with our monthly newsletter, a few creative development opportunities in this one as well as an exciting event coming soon - make sure to check out the From our Creative Community section!

Rehearsal Spaces & Artists' Lounge

We offer free last minute rehearsal spaces. Our studios can be available Monday – Friday between 10am – 5pm by emailing creatives@birminghamhippodrome.com by 11am Wednesday with requests for the following week. Please drop us a message with a bit of info on what you’ll be using the space for, as well as how many people will be in attendance. This ensures we can book you into the most appropriate space available!

The Artists' Lounge is a relaxed space for Creatives to be at home in the Hippodrome with drinks making facilities, a lounge and library (open weekdays 10am – 5pm). The Lounge may be a bit busier than usual on Friday 30 May as a Young Community Drop In session as part of BSIDE Festival will be taking place (there will also be a DJ in the Atrium in the afternoon!).

This year, the course will run from Saturday 14th June to Saturday 2nd August. It includes eight in-person evening sessions on Wednesdays, bookended by two extended Saturday sessions.

From our Creative Community

An image of Adjei Sun wearing an orange blazer. He is looking up. The text on the image states "A moment of Connection, Saturday 14 June, 6:30 - 9pm, Hosted and supported by Birmingham Hippodrome".

There is a word I think about often: sonder. Sonder describes the realisation that everyone we meet is living a life as complex and intricate as our own. How do we experience connection to ourselves, each other, time and the world around us? What are some of the beautiful moments of connection we've experienced? What kind of connections do we want to create and what is the power of connection and empathy in today's world?

Join me, adjei sun, and friends to explore through this immersive show — an ode to the meaningful moments of connection, compassion and empathy in our lives. Meet new people and connect through the power of creativity, conversations and performances.
