OPENING ENCORE REVEALED

The La Boite Encores series kicks off with In Beauty It Is Finished by George Landen Dann. Controversial even before its 1931 premiere by La Boite's predecessor - The Brisbane Repertory Society - this groundbreaking play explores the relationship between a young white woman and an Aboriginal man with raw honesty.

For the first time, this powerful work, set on Quandamooka Country, will be read by a First Nations cast, under the direction of proud Butchulla man Aidan Rowlingson.

ORIGINAL DIRECTORS RETURN FOR ENCORES

Our special La Boite Encore series has been curated in collaboration with past and present Artistic Directors, celebrating the voices and vision that have shaped our impressive history.

Returning to direct four readings are former La Boite Artistic Directors, Sue Rider (The Matilda Women), Sean Mee (Zig Zag Street), David Berthold (Holding the Man), and Todd MacDonald (Prize Fighter).

In another special event announcement, we are thrilled to welcome back to La Boite, acclaimed director, writer and actor from stage and screen, Leah Purcell AM (Black Chicks Talking).

LA BOITE STRENGTHENS BOARD


La Boite Theatre has appointed three new Non-Executive Directors, expanding its Board to a full complement of 10 as the company builds momentum towards its landmark centenary in July 2025.

John Nicholas Saunders, Hannah Barr and Grace Loyden bring a wealth of expertise in philanthropy, education and the arts, strengthening La Boite’s strategic leadership at a pivotal time in the company’s history.

GENERAL AUDITIONS

La Boite Theatre and Queensland Theatre want to hear from you!

  La Boite Theatre is partnering with Queensland Theatre to hold General Auditions—an opportunity to connect with actors outside of specific casting calls. 

Expression of interest are open until 5pm, Thursday 10 April 2025.

If successful, auditions will be held Wednesday 30 April – Friday 2 May 2025.
