You are cordially invited to attend South Coast Repertory’s

2020 Virtual Gala

on October 16, 2020, at 7:00 p.m.

SCR returns with a brand-new virtual experience—one of Southern California’s premier Galas is going online and will feature a sneak-peek excerpt of a world premiere featuring Artistic Director, David Ivers!

Undaunted by the current crisis, David Ivers asked Tony Award-winning playwright Richard Greenberg to dream up a one-person play. The result is A Shot Rang Out, a tour de force of a play written specially for SCR’s Artistic Director.

Buy a ticket to this this year’s Gala and support SCR’s innovative artistry and the tens of thousands of Orange County schoolchildren who come to the theatre every year, free of charge.

Join us for an exclusive sneak-peek excerpt of A Shot Rang Out featuring our very own David Ivers!

A Shot Rang Out

A Play in One Man
By Richard Greenberg

South Coast Repertory’s past and future join forces in a compelling new play about the present. After a long period of isolation, an actor returns to the stage, alone and shaken. This is his story—his moment of reckoning—about what led to his seclusion. Along the winding journey, he draws inspiration from movies and theatre, reflects on missteps and unravels mysteries of love.

Artistic Director David Ivers makes his SCR acting debut in this play written specially for him by Richard Greenberg. Prior to SCR, David served as artistic director for Arizona Theatre Company. Before that, he served more than 20 years as an actor and director at Utah Shakespeare Festival, with the last six as artistic director. For a decade, he was a resident artist at Denver Center Theatre Company, acting in and/or directing more than 40 plays and has helmed productions at many of the nation’s leading regional theatres including the Guthrie Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Berkeley Repertory Theatre and South Coast Repertory.

SCR’s prolific relationship with Richard Greenberg dates back three decades. He holds the distinction of having ten world premieres at SCR—the most of any playwright. Among them are Three Days of Rain, Hurrah at Last, Our Mother’s Brief Affair and The Violet Hour, which opened the Julianne Argyros Stage in 2002. He has been honored with the Tony Award for Best Play for Take Me Out, as well as New York Drama Critics Circle, Drama League, Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel awards, and he was twice a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama.
