Emphasizing the Latinx community’s role in conservation

A collage of photos. Clockwise from left to right: a breaching whale, a family exploring a tidepool, a diver giving a thumbs up underwater, Mariana Del Valle Prieto Cervantes standing by the ocean, a garibaldi in the Kelp Forest exhibit, purple flowers overlooking the bay.

You’re invited to a special Latino Conservation Week water policy webinar

Join us as we support Latinxs across the nation in protecting our natural resources — including coastal environments — as part of our mission to inspire conservation of the ocean.

In recognition of our second year celebrating Latino Conservation Week (July 17-25), we are pleased to be hosting a virtual convening of NGOs focused on conservation values and policies that promote the protection of water.

Proteger el agua es proteger la vida
(Protecting water is protecting life)

Thursday, July 22 at 2 p.m. PT

From inland to the coast, the role of water brings gente across the nation together. Coastal and clean drinking water policy issues are integral to the work Latinx-led NGOs are championing. These issues intersect with environmental and social justice, outdoor access, and equity which impact nuestras comunidades. The panel includes California and federal partners leading change throughout the state by tackling issues around ocean plastic pollution, clean water, and more.

Confirmed speakers:

  • Melissa Aguayo, US Member Engagement Officer at Break Free From Plastic
  • Juan Altamirano, Associate Director of Policy at Audubon California
  • Mariana Del Valle Prieto Cervantes, Clean and Healthy Waters Advocate at Green Latinos
  • Marce Gutiérrez-Graudiņš, Founder and Executive Director at Azul

Moderated by Claudia Pineda Tibbs, Sustainability Manager at Monterey Bay Aquarium
