Dear ,

Join us as Lisbeth Strimple Fuisz, a lecturer in the English department at Georgetown University, leads a spirited series of lectures and informal dialogues to explore why each of four notable novels merited the Pulitzer Prize:

  • APRIL 7 Beloved (1988) by Toni Morrison: The protagonist, an escaped slave, cannot escape memories of her slave home.

  • MAY 5  American Pastoral  (1998) by
    Philip Roth:
A view of the political and cultural turmoil of the ’60s.

  • JUNE 9  Interpreter of Maladies (2000) by Jhumpa Lahiri: During nightly electricity outages, under cover of darkness an Indian couple share secrets they have never before revealed.

  • JULY 7  The Orphan Master's Son  (2013) by Adam Johnson: In totalitarian North Korea there is an underlying tension between how a person behaves within society and who they really are underneath.

Sherry and cookies are available for refreshment.

Participants should read the first book prior to class.
