Dear Overture Council Members,
Welcome to the first Clef Notes of the 2023/24 Season! It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Symphony Ball afterparty on September 23, and I look forward to seeing more of you at our Season Kickoff Party on October 13 (more details below). In this monthly newsletter, you will find information about upcoming events, committee meeting dates, membership renewal and upcoming CSO performances.
Our theme for this season is "We are all cultural citizens," a quote from Yo-Yo Ma. (Thank you to our member Valerie Mayuga for providing the video inspiration.) Ma goes on to say, "Culture will be the engine of our reconstruction;" as we enter our second fully in-person season after the pandemic closure, we look forward to engaging with all our members, with the broader Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association community and with the city of Chicago.
The Overture Council Executive Committee has begun to sketch out an exciting program of events, ranging from casual happy hours to free Civic Orchestra performances to some very exciting Soundposts (which will launch in the winter). We're excited to share more, and we can't wait to engage members who want to help execute these events and plan others. It's always a great time to get more involved with the Overture Council, and nothing beats the new-school-year feel of fall.
Let
the music play,
Leah Williams, Overture Council President
We are excited to introduce our incoming Executive Committee members for the 2023/24 Season:
Our incoming Chairs join the following Executive Committee members who are continuing their terms for a second season: Matthew Fry (Activities Chair), Lauren Huefner (External Relations Chair), Aileen Markovitz (Communications Chair) and Amy Fallon (Secretary).
Explore, support and influence the future of classical music by renewing your membership for Chicago’s premier young professionals' network, the Overture Council.
Anyone who joins or renews their membership between now and our Season Kickoff party (Oct. 13) will be entered to win a pair of tickets to a CSO concert!
We invite you to celebrate the start of the Overture Council's and Chicago Symphony Orchestra's season in Style! Get ready for an unforgettable evening filled with food, laughter and great company at our Season Kickoff Party.
Highlights of the Evening:
Socialize with fellow OC members before we head to the Civic Orchestra's performance of Symphonic Dances. We’ll be hanging out at 2Twenty2 Tavern (222 S. Wabash Ave.) starting at 6:00 p.m. for an informal preconcert happy hour.
The CSOA also holds a block of tickets for Overture Council members for all Civic Orchestra performances held at Symphony Center. Civic Orchestra performances are free to attend but require a reservation. Our OC block guarantees you a seat and allows you to sit near fellow members!
If you are interested in attending the concert, please RSVP by emailing forssanderj@cso.org.
The city’s annual celebration of its architectural heritage comes to Symphony Center on Saturday, October 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as part of Open House Chicago, presented by the Chicago Architecture Center.
Enjoy a self-guided, station-by-station tour with information provided by volunteer tour guides. A Resource Fair will take place in Grainger Ballroom, hosted by CSO affinity groups, including the Overture Council, Student Ambassadors, CSO for Kids Ambassadors, League of the CSOA, Women’s Board, Latino Alliance and African American Network.
Refreshments will be available at concession stands on the Main Level and at the Rotunda’s Bass Bar. Lunch will be available at Forte, Symphony Center's restaurant, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Visit the Symphony Store for exclusive, CSO-branded merchandise and apparel, including new designs by local artist Steve Shanabruch. Open from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
This event is free and open to the public, with no tickets required.
If you are interested in volunteering to help with the Overture Council's information table, please email forssanderj@cso.org.
