HONOLULU, HAWAI‘I—On July 3, the Honolulu Museum of Art presents an evening of soulful song with Hawai‘i singer/songwriter Izik (Isaac Moreno) and New Mexico performing artist Isaac Aragón.
The two vocalists share more than a name. Their distinct sounds are both rooted in soul music, and both draw from personal reflection and experience to write songs focused on community care and healing. The evening’s title combines the names of the performers’ most recent albums.
The evening is an artful way to celebrate July 4th—guests can have dinner at the HoMA Café, explore the galleries, then groove to the sounds of Izik and Isaac.

Izik
Raised on O‘ahu and Moloka‘i, Izik explores themes of Hawaiian identity, cultural reclamation, and the environment in his music. Counting artists as diverse as Mariah Carey and the Carpenters as influences, Izik has said he aims to show other indigenous creators and musicians “that our stories can live in any genre of music.” KŌWĀ is his third full-length album and one of this most personal works to date. Recorded in Taumarunui, Aotearoa, in collaboration with Māori producer Brandon Haru, the album reflects a creative exchange between Hawai‘i and Aotearoa and explores relationships to family and ancestry, connection to place, joy as resilience, and healing as an ongoing journey.
Isaac Aragón is from New Mexico and began dividing his time between Albuquerque and Hawai‘i in 2019. He counts Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye as his musical influences and his song Love Bless America gained international attention. His socially conscious music offers messages of hope, compassion, and resilience. The Healing is the debut album by his ensemble Isaac Aragón & The Healing. It examines personal and collective healing through themes of mental health, social justice, love, human connection, perseverance, and community care.
