Everyman & Playhouse theatres
For Liverpool theatre makers

Tue 26 Apr 2022

Hello

Welcome to the April New Works Newsletter!

I’ve been here for two weeks now shadowing Frank at New Works and I’ve been privileged to be able to experience many aspects of the brilliant work that happens at the Everyman & Playhouse theatres. Every person I’ve interacted with has been warm and welcoming, and I’ve seen first-hand how much effort they put in to making sure their work is inclusive and accessible to as many people as possible. I’ve had the opportunity to read scripts, meet with writers, observe the audition process, sit in and even allowed to contribute in a script workshop.

Not having any background in theatre, I didn’t know what to expect from my placement, and as Frank will confirm I have often found myself a bit bewildered in some by some of the processes. However, the environment has been nothing but supportive and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all aspects I’ve been invited to be a part of.

· Everyman Connects is an exciting new event running on Sat 30 Apr. The day has been created in response to My White Best Friend North, which took place at the Everyman in October 2021 and will be centred around a Panel Discussion asking the central question, “how can our cultural spaces be more and do more for us?”. Our Street Café will be transformed into a Market Place for Global Majority led arts organisations and businesses, with plenty of food and performances throughout the day. The event is free entry but booking is required, find out more here.

· Our spring Script Submission window is open until the end of May and we are looking for original voices who are passionate about telling stories in theatre. If you are live in or come from Liverpool City Region and want us to read your work, this is the perfect opportunity.
