Festival Highlights 2013

We are about to take over entire city streets. We are going to light up the sky in ways you never thought possible. We are redefining the way Perth and Western Australia sees and actively participates in art. Together we are about to experience the best the world has to offer with international artists at their very peak.

Legends of performance are descending on Perth, including The Berliner Ensemble, Philip Glass, Barry McGovern, Neil Armfield, Laurie Anderson and Kronos Quartet, and their brilliant works play alongside some of the world’s brightest young stars.

A stellar line-up at the Perth Writers Festival (21–24 February) gets us all thinking and debating the big issues; while, the Lotterywest Festival Films program (commencing 25 November) includes some of the best directors and artists working in cinema today. Beyond Perth, our Great Southern Festival, on sale from 6.30pm Wednesday 14 November, reveals a program that is more daring and diverse than ever before.

Of course, no-one wants to miss out on tickets, and by becoming a Friend of the Festival you never will! Friends gain priority access to tickets, invitations to exclusive events and access to all the latest Festival news. Sign up today and gain access to all these amazing benefits immediately!

It's back! And if you thought it couldn't get any better than 2012, just wait until you see what is in store for you at the 2013 Chevron Festival Gardens!

For 23 nights during this Festival the best Australian and international acts hit the Mainstage. From the captivating Cat Power to the enigmatic Father John Misty, sax titan James Carter (with his organ trio), New York hipsters How to Dress Well and the horn-driven New Orleans eight-piece Soul Rebels. With the electronic cool of Future Classic, the smooth vocals of José James, the lyrically spellbinding production of David Lynch Presents Chrysta Bell and an awesome collaboration of Australian soul and rock with Tim Rogers and The Bamboos this is an epic program.

See the world’s greatest films on the iconic outdoor screens at Somerville and Joondalup Pines.

The magic of cinema and Perth’s luxuriously long hot summer provide the perfect blend for extraordinary Festival experiences. There is no better way to enjoy the works inspired by that enduring magic than at Somerville (UWA) and Joondalup Pines (ECU).

This stunning line-up of world cinema opens with Searching for Sugar Man (Somerville), a music-fuelled documentary about an unlikely American rock ’n’ roll hero, and the endlessly funny yet deeply moving Scottish heist film, The Angels’ Share (Joondalup Pines).

The hits just keep on coming! Our season also includes the heartfelt Western Australian film Satellite Boy; the emotionally resonant Sister from the Dardenne Brothers (The Kid with a Bike). The engrossing political drama, No, unfolding around Chile’s 1998 referendum on the Pinochet regime; the beautiful and poignant Amour, which won Michael Haneke his second Palme d’Or; and the transfixing drama About Elly from Iranian director Asghar Farhadi (A Separation).

Bring your friends, bring a picnic and enjoy the best that contemporary cinema has to offer under the stars. Films begin Sunday 25 November 2012. To view the program, please visit our website or request a Lotterywest Festival Films brochure.
