6:00 Event: A Conversation with Osvaldo Golijov

7:30 Concert: Muti & the CSO

Before the November 8 performance of Muti & the CSO, join the Latino Alliance in Grainger Ballroom for an enlightening conversation with Osvaldo Golijov, moderated by WFMT’s Oliver Camacho, delving into Golijov’s music and tenure as former CSO Mead Composer-in-Residence. Afterward, Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra perform Golijov’s Megalopolis Suite, alongside spirited pieces that evoke the lively rhythms of southern Spain, including Manuel de Falla’s Suite No. 2 from The Three-Cornered Hat and Emmanuel Chabrier’s España.

Specially priced concert tickets start at $40 using promo code LASEASON. A separate ticket to attend the Latino Alliance reception is free.

You will be prompted to add the free reception ticket after selecting your seats for the concert. Both a concert ticket and reception ticket are required for entry. For questions or assistance, contact Patron Services.

Notes for Peace

November 9 | Buntrock Hall

Notes for Peace

In partnership with Purpose Over Pain, the Notes for Peace program uses the therapeutic power of music to support Chicago families who have lost loved ones to gun violence. With guidance from Civic Orchestra Fellows, guest teaching artists from the U.K.-based Irene Taylor Trust and professional vocalists, participants create original songs of tribute that are professionally recorded and performed live.

Tickets are free; reservations required.

Día de los Muertos ofrenda at Symphony Center

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, begins on November 1 as a day of remembrance for deceased loved ones. This tradition has its origins in precolonial Mexico, based on the belief that souls return to celebrate their lives with their families. Today, families commemorate the day by creating ofrendas (altars), adorned with photos, candles, incense and other decorations and offerings to remember the departed.

From October 24 to November 3, visitors to Symphony Center can pay their respects at an ofrenda created by local artist Elvia Rodriguez Ochoa. Honoring members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association family who have passed away over the past year, it also features opportunities for the public and Symphony Center patrons to honor their loved ones. The ofrenda is located on the first floor of the Rotunda.
