NEW: Walking Tours


To commemorate the AGA’s 100th anniversary, we invite you to join us for a series of scenic walking tours. Each week, we’ll discover a piece of Edmonton’s storied history as we meander the area surrounding the AGA. Each tour features a 45-minute presentation led by a local expert followed by refreshments. Tickets for the walking tours can be bought as a series or individually.

Bridging Art and Leadership Panel

Indigenous Arts Market

September 21 & 22, 11am-5pm

Taking place over two days from 11am to 5pm, the Indigenous Arts Market is free to experience in the AGA’s Main Hall. It’s the perfect place to support incredible artists and products and celebrate Indigenous creativity.

All Day Sunday

September 8, 12-4pm

Ecological or Eco-Art is an art practice that includes nature, science, and activism. Visit AGA100: Landscape to Land Use and discover artists reflecting on our relationship with the natural world, before creating artwork using natural and recycled materials and an illustrated poster.

Cinema For Seniors

September 13, 2-4pm

Are you a senior looking for unique art experiences, love film and meeting fellow life-long learners? Explore the work of portrait photographer Elsa Dorfman in The B-Side: Elsa Dorfman’s Portrait Photography (2017). After the film, enjoy refreshments and a lively discussion!

Artist Activation | Brin Steeves: Artist for Hire

September 26, 2-7pm

Join local artist Brin Steeves in our Main Hall to explore Artist for Hire, multidisciplinary project that explores impermanence, artistic self-worth and the influences of online virality. A presentation and performance will occur at 5:30pm.

Part of this activation takes place during our free admission hours of 4 to 7pm, which occur the last Thursday of every month.

Seniors' Tour

September 27, 2-3pm

Join us on Friday, September 27th for a wonderful walk through our current exhibition 1924: Edmonton and the Beginnings of the Art Gallery of Alberta with AGA Curator Danielle Siemens. Learn about the last century of the AGA and the reality of Edmonton and its communities in 1924. 

Seniors’ Tours are offered monthly and organized by the AGA’s Aging Artfully Advisory Committee. 

Tours for Tots

Every Wednesday, 10-11am

Join us for this weekly art exploration for children ages 3-5 and their parents, consisting of playful activities, whimsical storytelling and hands-on art-making.

FAIR WEATHER: Equality, Community, and Climate Change
Opening September 7

Presented by students, graduates, and instructors from Portage College and the University of Alberta, as well as special guest artists from India and around the world, this exhibition explores climate-focused themes of fair weather, climate change, and climate justice. Images from Climate Visuals, a project by Climate Outreach (a UK-based organization that collects and disseminates climate research), help to tell a global story on climate change. 

Organized by Portage College and curated by Pierre Oberg.

                

New Opportunity: TD Curator of Indigenous Creativity

There’s a new position available on the AGA team  - TD Curator of Indigenous Creativity! This new full-time, 2-year position is supported by TD's Ready Commitment funding initiative. This funding will support the creativity and growth of the successful candidate's curatorial practice, amplifying the voices of Indigenous artists and celebrating the creativity of Indigenous communities.

The successful candidate will initiate and collaborate on new exhibition development, collections acquisitions and animation, public programming, and community engagement in partnership with artists, colleagues and organizations across Canada, in support of Indigenous creativity.

The Art Gallery of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located in Treaty 6 Territory and Region 4 of the Metis Nation of Alberta. We respect this as the traditional and contemporary  land of diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Nitsitapi/Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux/Ojibwe and Dene Peoples. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.
