PNB Family April Updates

April Updates from PNB School

Our annual Spring Fling is available online now, and you're invited! This year's event, in an all-new digital format, features an archival recording of PNB School students and the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra performing Jerome Robbins' Fanfare. This lighthearted one-act ballet, set to Benjamin Britten's "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra," is perfect for spring. Spring Fling also offers kid-friendly activities, bonus videos from the PNB Orchestra, spring craft projects, a virtual art gallery, and more!

Keep sending us your ballet, music, and spring-inspired art - we’ll share on the Spring Fling page as well as PNB School’s Instagram stories from April 19 through May 3. We can't wait to see what you create!

While our staff capacity at the Phelps Center and the Francia Russell Center remain limited, communication with our PNB School families is a top priority. Please email PNBSchool@PNB.org with any questions and we'll get back to you as quickly as possible.

Spring Fling

Please Support Spring Fling!

PNB School Faculty and staff have worked diligently all year long to bring our students and families the high-level dance instruction we're know for, whether via Zoom or in small groups at the Phelps Center and Francia Russell Center. Now we're asking for your help - please join us to celebrate Spring Fling and make a donation to sustain PNB School until we can all be back in the studios for class.

PNB Faculty's Dance Movie Picks

With the Oscars happening at the end of April, this month's PNB School Spotlight is all about our faculty's favorite dance films (spoiler alert: everybody loves Billy Elliot and Dirty Dancing)! Read a few featured excerpts below and then head over to the PNB blog for our full recommendation list and where to watch.

"Movie that made me want to be a dancer? Fame. Debby Allen was the teacher you wanted to learn from…strong, intense, but full of love for you and the art of dance. Leroy was my hero. Untrained, raw, determined. And everyone falls for the street dance scene but overlooks the real dance gem of the movie, 'Hot Lunch'."

— Eva Stone

"My guilty pleasure would undoubtedly be Dirty Dancing! Patrick Swayze with Jennifer Grey and Broadway legends Jerry Orbach and Kelly Bishop (as her parents), what's not to like? Set in a Catskill resort, it's a family drama which morphs into a dance drama with political, classist undertones. The story is a bit corny, but I feel charmed by it more every time I watch it."

— Dina McDermott
