In recognition of Juneteenth, an annual holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, we invite you to join our very special tour of Oak Woods Cemetery on Chicago's South Side. The lush 19th-century landscape is the final resting place for several of Chicago's most celebrated and iconic African American residents, including Mayor Harold Washington, journalist Ida B. Wells, Olympian Jesse Owens, and musicians Thomas A. Dorsey and Roebuck "Pops" Staples. On a day that celebrates freedom, this guided walk through the historic burial ground offers an opportunity for education and reflection. CAC will be offering this tour at no cost to our guests.

This multi-week program (formerly known as the Neighborhood Teen Ambassadors) engages students ages 14-17 in place-based research as they dive into a Chicago neighborhood’s history, practicing public speaking and storytelling. Students work directly with community leaders, residents and neighborhood stakeholders while earning a stipend.
2021 was a year of rebuilding and reimaging for the CAC. As our city, our country and our world are still feeling the impact from a global pandemic, we have come to fully embrace the adage, “change is the only constant.” Despite the challenges and uncertainty of 2021, the CAC continued to showcase Chicago architecture in innovative ways.
