Pre-applications for the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants large grant round (requests over $10,000) will be due Friday, May 20, 2022. This is a required part of the large grant application process. Contact the Grants Office with questions.
Grants Office Webinar: Final Reports - Keys to a Successful Grant Close-out
April 21 - Online: 2 to 3 pm. Should you obtain a grant for your project, an important requirement is the final report. Yes, you will complete the final report once your project is finished, but knowing what you will need for the report from the beginning will make closing your grant much easier in the end. This webinar will cover the different parts of the final report, how to find it and fill it out, and how to keep project records so you will be ready at the end. Application for the 2022 BWCA Trip for Veterans Now Open
The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center is once again hosting two free trips for veterans to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Northern Minnesota this summer. With the COVID-19 pandemic canceling the 2020 trip, the Center is able to offer a second trip this year. Trip dates are July 11 to 17, 2022. Applications are due by May 1. Learn more »

Exhibit: Brewers and Bottlers - A Refreshing History of Beer and Soda Making in Nicollet County
April 16 through March 25, 2023 - St. Peter: April 16, 10 am to 4 pm. (Open House) Nicollet County Historical Society - Beer and soda have long held an important place in American history, AND in Nicollet County. This exhibit explores the rich history of locally produced beverages. Drop-in Program: Stereoscopes & Thaumatropes
April 16 - Bloomington: 1 to 4 pm. Pond Dakota Mission Park - Look through a stereoscope at dozens of 19th-century photos to see the world in VR as the Pond family saw it. April 19 - Le Center: 7 pm. Le Sueur County Historical Society - The first in a three-part series on the lives of three Minnesota artists is the work of world-famous printmaker and watercolor artist Adolf Dehn. Presentation: Native Plants & Indigenous Perspectives at the Grand Meadow Chert Quarry
April 21 - Austin: Mower County Historical Society - Dakota educator Nicky Buck will be talking about the significance of certain grasses, trees, and flowers found at the Grand Meadow Chert Quarry, and how their natural gifts have sustained people living on the edge of the prairie for thousands of years. Tom Trow, MCHS Project Archeologist for the Quarry, will provide a brief introduction and share information about the Interpretive Plan that is currently in development in partnership with Minnesota’s Dakota Communities. Event: Trains at the Depot are Back
April 23 and 24 - Bemidji: 10 am to 4 pm. Beltrami County History Center - Multiple operating model trains will be on display, including size N Scale to HO Scale to O Gauge and a fabulous LEGO City with operating LEGO trains. Emerging Crises Oral History Research Fund
April 15 - (Deadline): The Oral History Association announces funding of up to $4,000 to undertake oral history research in situations of crisis in the United States and internationally. These funds may be applied to travel, per diem, or transcription costs for research in places and situations in which a longer application time schedule may be problematic. Such crisis situations include but are not limited to wars, natural disasters, political and or economic/ethnic repression, or other currently emerging events of crisis proportions. Learn more »

Cokie Roberts Research Fund for Women’s History

As part of a grant-funded project, textiles conservators from MACC looked at the most vulnerable textiles in the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County collection. Each artifact record must be updated with the new condition details and photographs documenting the needs. Learn more »
Runestone Museum volunteers and staff have been busy cleaning up and organizing their outdoor buildings, getting them ready for summer. Volunteers have been hard at work cleaning out and organizing the storeroom and have found some long-lost treasures, including but not limited to a bust, lots of mannequin parts, a big footprint, and a forgotten Viking map.
