An Appreciation for Summer

In the heart of winter Stages Theatre Company has an appreciation for summer. As we roll out registration for Summer Theatre Workshops 2022 we appreciate the joy, discovery, and imagination that our students bring to the classroom all summer long! Summer Theatre Workshops offer students Age 4-Grade 12 a chance to explore self-expression and creativity with friends old and new.

New this summer is a chance for teens to mix and match their interests with half-day offerings or delve deeper into creating with their peers in full-day workshops. Also new is our Summer Studio for grades 6-9. In this multi-week theatre experience, students rehearse and put on a show and can choose an adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time or the musical Annie, Kids.

Summer Theatre Workshops run from June 6 through August 25, 2022. Registration opened February 1st and classes are filling FAST! Registration opened February 1st and classes are filling FAST!

New Employee Appreciation

With our Summer Theatre Workshop registration rolling out we are more appreciative than ever of our new Education Registrar, Elinor Jones. Elinor is a 2021 graduate of Macalester College and joined our staff full-time this fall. Stages is their first post-grad job, and she is loving her time here thus far. As a student Elinor was an administrator for the theater department while completing majors in music and theatre. Off-campus, they worked with Mixed Blood and the Minnesota Fringe Festival. As a kid, Elinor moved around, and theatre became a home for them, where she performed and learned box office management. At Stages Elinor supervises the box office staff and oversees our education registration.

Tuck Everlasting, TYA

Actors Young and Old Alike

On January 24, we began rehearsals for our upcoming show Tuck Everlasting, the Musical TYA. The show features a multi-generational cast of 27 ranging from ages 10 to 70+. The 70-minute version of the Broadway musical adaptation of the best-selling novel by Natalie Babbit takes us on a thrilling adventure that begs the question: What if you could live forever? As the story unfolds through song and dance, the answers to what makes a life well lived are both surprising and heartfelt. Tuck Everlasting is recommended for ages 7 and up. It opens March 4 and runs through March 22.

Calling Youth Actors!

One thing we appreciate at Stages Theatre Company is the amazing youth actors who bring their talent and enthusiasm to our stage. We have two opportunities in February for youth actors to audition for our upcoming spring shows.

On February 7-9 we are seeking youth actors ages 10-18 to audition for What Do You Do with an Idea? This world premiere musical adaptation of the book by Kobi Yamada starts rehearsals on February 28. The show opens April 8 and runs through May 8.

On February 14-16 we are seeking youth actors ages 12-18 for the regional premiere of All American Boys, a stage adaptation of the award-winning book by Jason Reynolds and Branden Kiely. Rehearsals start March 14, and the show runs April 29-May 22. Auditions, rehearsals, and performances are at the Capri Theatre in Minneapolis.

All interested performers should check out our website for information on what to prepare and how to make an audition appointment.
