Join the University Singers, UVA Chamber Singers, Virginia Glee Club, and Virginia Women’s Chorus for the traditional Family Weekend Choral Showcase. The concert’s lively and varied program will feature selections from all four ensembles’ 2019 repertoire—and closes with a joint performance of selections, including the beloved UVA songs, sung by the four combined choruses (nearly 200 voices strong), joined on stage by their alumni.

Paul Stapleton is an improviser and sound artist who designs and performs internationally with a variety of modular metallic sound sculptures, custom made electronics, and found objects. Paul is currently Professor of Music at SARC in Belfast, where he teaches and supervises research in new musical instrument design, music performance, sound design, and critical improvisation studies.

Meet the instruments of an orchestra one-on-one and try making sounds that remind you of your favorite movie in a hands-on Musical Instrument Petting Zoo. With help from UVA music faculty, students and community members of the Charlottesville Symphony, miniature Mozarts and budding Beethovens – and grownups – can hear, see, touch and play many different instruments found in the orchestra.

The UVA Jazz Ensemble's fall concert features guest artists in residence tenor
saxophonist, Jeff Antoniuk and guitarist John Lee. Jazz Ensemble director John D’earth invited the two men to the residency after hearing their original music played by their Helluva Band, which recently released its first recording, FLOW, on Antoniuk’s Atonal Licks label. More information.

The UVA Chamber Music Series kicks off with a concert by violinist David Sariti. The program will include W. A. Mozart's Violin Sonata in F Major, K. 377, Caprice Variations for Unaccompanied violin (based on Paganini) by George Rochberg, Vaughan WIlliams Two Pieces for Violin and Piano, and the Violin Sonata No. 1 in G Major by Johannes Brahms. Sariti will be joined by pianist Jeremy Thompson.

The Free Bridge Quintet will present a concert honoring the centennial the of pioneering drummer and bandleader Art Blakey on Saturday, Nov. 2nd at 8:00pm in Old Cabell Hall Auditorium. The Quintet welcomes special guest performers Bob Hallahan on piano and Doug Bethel on trombone to help them recreate the timeless arrangements of Blakey's Jazz Messengers groups of the '50's and 60's.

This past summer, Jazz pianist and instructor Butch Taylor had several performances in Italy. He was also featured in an interview with Italian journal IoGiornalista. The interview goes over Butch's past performances with artists like Dave Matthews and Miles Davis in addition to his position as an instructor at UVA.
