Secretary of State Grant Shapps with Museum Director Judith McNicol

We were delighted to host the Right Hon Grant Shapps MP Secretary of State for Transport at the National Railway Museum for his announcement of the much awaited Williams - Shapps plan for Rail. What better backdrop to discuss the future of the Railway than our Museum as we plan for Vision 2025.

We give a warm welcome to our new silver corporate partner Construction Marine Limited. Founded in 1986, CML (Construction Marine Ltd) was originally established to undertake Marine and Civil Engineering Construction Works. CML has continued to grow and, in response to client requirements, has extended its range of civil engineering services now providing multi-disciplined construction and maintenance solutions, specialising in the rail sector.

Our June Railway Hero is Hussain Master a train Manager for Avanti; a lifelong volunteer Hussain stepped up his work during the height of the COVID 19 pandemic volunteering at a local food bank alongside his train management duties.

In other partner news Porterbrook have donated a HST to the Railway Museum. The record breaking Class 43 HST Power Car is currently on display to our visitors outside Locomotion in Shildon.

CML opens new facilities in Leeds and Sheffield

Spring 2021 saw CML, our newest corporate partner proudly open their doors to two new facilities in Leeds and Sheffield from which their growing civil engineering business operates. Leeds was the birthplace of CML and continues to provide a home for their head office, a Grade II listed Georgian building which after 20 years of occupation has been extended and fully refurbished to provide a modern workspace. CML have also invested in a 22,000sq ft facility in Sheffield, which over the last 9 months has been extended and refurbished to create a bespoke office and warehouse specifically designed to create a safe and efficient work environment for their reactive delivery teams servicing Network Rail’s Eastern Region.

Our Railway Heroes

This month our Railway Hero is Hussain Master, a train manager for Avanti based out of Preston.

The Railway Heroes exhibition is displayed in the National Railway Museum and Locomotion as well as on line. The images are a handful of our railway heroes, giving an insight into their lives in and out of the railway as the world rapidly changed around them.

Porterbrook Donates Record Breaking Class 43 HST Power Car to National Railway Museum

Our corporate partner Porterbrook, the rolling stock owner and asset manager, announced the donation of the record breaking HST power car 43102 to the National Railway Museum.

In 1987 the power car broke the world speed record for a diesel-powered train, reaching 148.5mph between Northallerton and York. Decommissioned after 39 years’ frontline service the HST now has a new home at Locomotion in Shildon, County Durham.

Corporate Partner Benefits

Our exclusive "Future of" forum are open to a limited number of partners and enable you to ask questions and receive answers from our speakers on topics relevant to you and your organisation.

Our June forum covered sustainability, hosted by Railway Museum Assistant Director Andrew McLean, Clive Roberts Head of the School of Engineering at Birmingham University and HS2 Director of Environment & Town Planning Peter Miller.

Here is what our guest David Taylor Account Director High Speed Rail at Thales UK had to say about the forum:

"Thank you for the invite to the recent  ‘The Future Of UK Rail And The Importance Of Sustainability round table discussion’.  I’ve attended similar events but found this round table the most valuable, the speakers were very well informed and the limited number of attendees meant it was like a physical round table as opposed to a virtual conference –  enabling all of the 10-12 the attendees to ask questions. Well done!  Hope we get the chance to attend similar discussions moving forwards".
