Autumn’s rolled in and we’re buzzing to have the building alive again after our summer break.

There’s loads to look forward to over the next few months – including the next BBC Introducing from The Glasshouse, with Mcxxne headlining this September.

Opportunities

MJF Soundcheck 2025

Are you aged 18-29 and living in Greater Manchester? MJF soundcheck is for musicians who want space to try out new things and be supported to grow creatively. Simply apply with a musical idea that you want to develop and MJF will help you to do that, through 1-1 meetings, pairing you with a brilliant artist mentor, introducing you to inspiring industry professionals, providing you with a tailored recommended playlist, and encouraging you to meet other musicians.

CoMA London Ensemble Composers in Residence 2026

CoMA London is seeking composers in residence for the calendar year 2026. The composers in residence will become members of the group and play in all rehearsals and performances in that time. During the year each composer will create a new work which will be premiered in CoMA London Ensemble’s December concert. Applicants must be able to play a woodwind, brass, string or percussion instrument to a reasonable standard to be considered for this role.

MJF 2026 Artist Submissions

Do you fancy being part of Manchester’s longest-running music festival? Applications are now open to play. MJF2026 will take place from the 15-24th May 2026. MJF is the go-to UK opportunity for contemporary jazz artists to develop their practice and for audiences to experience new music: where artists can find themselves and audiences lose themselves.

A full day conference hosted by Generator consisting of panels, conversations, and behind-the-scenes insight from the artists and industry leaders shaping what’s next. Featuring brilliant speakers, special guests, and plenty of chances to connect. Whether you’re making music, building a career, or just getting started, this is where you need to be.

When? Tuesday 14 October, 10am at Civic Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne

UNLIMITED: Open Awards 25/26

Ten opportunities are on offer for disabled artists based in England, Scotland or Wales, offering a grand total of £413,000. There are individual awards ranging from £15,000 seed commissions to £80,000 for major production-ready backing. This awards round supports bold, brilliant disabled artists to create, develop and share extraordinary work.

MJF Youth Advisory Board

MJF are busy recruiting new members to their Youth Advisory Board, to join for up to two years until the end of the 2027 festival. This is your chance to learn about the inner workings of a music festival and shout about your ideas. The YAB is made up of 10 young people aged 18-25 from varied backgrounds and with various interests. Applicants will be shortlisted, interviewed and appointed by current YAB members.

Sound Roots Artist Mentoring Pathway

The Sound Roots Artist Mentoring Pathway has been running since 2018 and equips emerging folk, roots and acoustic musicians with the skills, networks and experience to build their music career sustainably. Over 12 months, this intensive pathway is designed to support early career stage artists to demystify the international music industry and develop their professional network and profile.

Call-Out: Kirklees Most Wanted

Kirklees Most Wanted is a collaborative project aimed at showcasing the music scene in Kirklees. The aim is to create a space where artists can grow, work, network and perform, whilst also supporting the local economy and cultural scene. There are a number of ways to get involved as a creative.

Musicians Call-out: Wakefield Exchange

Wakefield Exchange are looking for a range of musicians and bands to perform at their venue, both local and regional. All genres are welcome! Full PA system available along with an in-house sound technician who can support with setup. You must have some videos available of live performances.

Apply For Red Note Factory Weekend

Factory Weekend is an opportunity for young classical music performers to take part in a weekend of creative music making. If you are an instrumentalist aged 18-28, interested in playing contemporary music and exploring some new skills in a fun and supportive environment, then their two day workshop is for you. No previous experience in contemporary music needed. Factory Weekend will take place in Glasgow at Scottish Opera on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October.

Sound City Artist Development

The Sound City Artist Talent Development Programme is back, offering 12 artists the chance to gain the skills, support and spotlight they need to make a real change in their careers. A tailored programme offers mentoring, masterclasses, and networking opportunities with industry leaders, alongside the chance to perform at Sound City Festival, the UK’s leading independent festival for new music. A £250 cash bursary is also provided.

Funding

Peter Whittingham Jazz Award

The Peter Whittingham Jazz Award supports emerging jazz artists or groups with the creativity and ambition to build a career in music. £5,000 in financial support towards your work. This could include recording new material, a period of mentoring, promotional activity and much more.

Luton Create Fund

Luton Arts will offer different levels of funding to help bring creative ideas to life, including but not limited to visual and performing arts, outdoor arts, film, design, storytelling, comedy, poetry, music, digital creativity, fashion, heritage, community traditions or contemporary youth cultures.

The Open Fund for Music Creators

The Open Fund for Music Creators supports the development of outstanding music creators of all genres and backgrounds at different stages of their career with grants of up to £5,000. In order to be eligible Music Creators’ projects must fulfil all three of the PRS funding priorities: to support the creation, performance and promotion of outstanding new music in any genre.

Women Make Music

PRS Foundation's Women Make Music Fund supports the development of outstanding women, trans and non binary songwriters and composers of all genres and backgrounds at different stages of their career. With grants of up to £5,000 on offer, the fund can support projects by women, trans and non binary songwriters, composers, artists, bands and performers who are writing their own music.

Composers' Fund

PRS Foundation’s Composers’ Fund is an opportunity for composers with a strong track record, giving direct access to funding at pivotal stages in their career. A contribution of up to £8,000 – £15,000 is available to composers who are already making a significant cultural contribution in the UK and have the potential for greater impact in the UK and overseas. The fund supports up to 15 composers per year who can make the case for the kind of support that would enable them to make a significant step change in their career.

Hitmaker Fund

The Hitmaker Fund offers an opportunity for songwriters and producers working in popular music genres to further develop their careers and writing/production with grants of between £5,000 –  £10,000. With this fund, PRS will be supporting the creation of new music by investing in talented writers and producers to help them build their careers at crucial stages.

NextGen Fund

The Youth Music NextGen Fund is designed to support early-stage musicians and music-adjacent creatives. Grants of up to £3,000 are on offer, with an aim to help young people invest in themselves, develop their skills, and bring their creative ideas to life. Anyone 18-25 (or 18-30 if someone identifies as Deaf, Disabled, or Neurodivergent) who is in their early career stages is invited to apply.

Early Career Promoter Fund

The Early Career Promoter Fund by PRS recognises the vital role independent promoters play in supporting the talent pipeline across England, and offers grant funding of up to £3,500 and capacity building support, with the aim of bolstering the local, regional and national ecosystems.

PiPA and Come Play With Me are hosting a peer support workshop at The Glasshouse for people balancing music careers with family life. Sound Scotland: Free Online Composer Support Calls
