2022-23 TEEN MENTORSHIPS

The Stages Teen Mentorship Programs are designed for youth ages 16-19 who are interested in exploring careers in the theatre arts beyond acting. Our mentorships provide real-world theatrical experience, tangible on-the-job training, and connections to the professional theatre world to bridge the gap between academic theatre and creating a viable, professional career in a theatre or non-profit setting. Mentees are paired with a theatrical professional to serve as their mentor to get hands-on experience in directing, designing, writing, composing, choreographing, fundraising, and marketing a show.

NOW accepting Applications for next year, apply by MAY 23rd.

CELEBRITY SIGHTINGS AT STAGES!

In April we had the special opportunity to connect with the creators of the book and musical "What Do You Do With An Idea?"! Book author Kobi Yamada and the team that brought it to the stage: Cristina Pippa (Script) and Sharon Kenny (Music & Lyrics). We are so excited to be working with them again to adapt another one of Kobi’s books, MAYBE, slotted to make its world premiere at Stages Theatre in January 2023. What Do You Do With An Idea? closes this weekend, don't miss your chance to see this inspirational show.

JUST OPENED: ALL AMERICAN BOYS!

ALL AMERICAN BOYS opened on April 29 and runs through May 22. By centering this story at the Capri in the heart of North Minneapolis and during May’s Mental Health Awareness Month, STC hopes to provide a space for community dialogue and healing. STC is engaging Washburn Center for Children, a leader in mental health and trauma healing, to support the cast and crew during the rehearsal and performance processes and facilitate community conversations. These virtual conversations, open to all who attend a performance, aim to foster dialogue and healing. Family and Educator Resource Guides are also available to help families and schools have conversations with young people before and after the performance.

ON STAGE WITH IN-SCHOOL RESIDENCIES

Spring productions are in full swing at FAIR! Our co-production of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, JR with FAIR School Crystal is ready for the stage! This beautiful production is directed by our very own Education Associate, Laura Mahler and will be performed outside at the FAIR Amphitheater May 6-8th. “Being outside allows us to embrace one another onstage and off. Join us in spreading the joy of this community! Join us in the dance!” -Laura Mahler

Over at FAIR School for Arts in Downtown Minneapolis, THE REALM is in rehearsal for their run May 18-20. Two teenagers, Kansas and James, must rely on each other as they attempt to escape from a not-so-future world that rations everything from water to children to the length of a human life -- a plastic-coated, slogan-filled society where citizens are expected to lose even language itself by a certain age.

TEACHERS ARE THE BEES KNEES

MAY IS TEACHER APPRECIATION MONTH! Did you know at Stages we have 6 Education Staff Members, 4 of which are alumni of Stages Education Programs!? Half of our staff are full-time teaching artists at FAIR School Pilgrim Lane, FAIR Crystal, and FAIR School for Arts. Throughout the school year we have 41 Teaching Artists and Assistants working on over 65 onsite classes, in-school residencies, and afterschool partnership classes. Looking forward to summer, we will have over 35 Teaching Artists and 15 Teaching Assistants for more than 100 workshops! THANK YOU, TEACHERS, for being awesome and for all the amazing work you do!
