Come be moved and inspired at our Insight Night for Bill W. and Dr. Bob, as Artistic Director Rick Lombardo (whose production of the play enjoyed an extended run off-Broadway in 2007), Director Richard Seer, recovery program Executive Director Lori Johnson, world renowned recovery comedian/actor/performer Mark Lundholm, and actor Ray Chambers (who will be playing Bill W. in this production), discuss the pioneers of Alcoholics Anonymous, the process of mounting a docu-drama about two American icons, and what the recovery fellowship has meant to our lives, our communities, and our society.

Ray Chambers

RAY CHAMBERS (BILL W.) is appearing on the San Jose Rep stage for the first time. He was last seen in the Alan Ayckbourn play The Life of Riley at The Old Globe where previous productions include Macbeth, Hamlet, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Coriolanus, The School for Scandal, Antony and Cleopatra, and The Comedy of Errors. As an associate artist for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, some of Mr. Chambers’ leading credits are The Count of Monte Cristo, Coriolanus, Henry V, The Winter’s Tale, Hamlet, A Doll’s House, Tartuffe, The Importance of Being Earnest, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Ghosts, and Saint Joan. Mr. Chambers has been seen in theaters across the country such as Syracuse Stage, Studio Arena Theater, Arizona Theatre Company, and Two River Theater Company in New Jersey. He is currently Head of Acting with The Old Globe/University of San Diego Graduate Theatre.

Lori Johnson

LORI JOHNSON (EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, AMICUS HOUSE) Sober since June 1, 1986, Lori Johnson is the founder and Executive Director of Amicus House Drug & Alcohol Treatment Program in San Jose, CA, one of the most highly regarded treatment facilities in the county. Lori has advocated for and assisted in creating standards of operation monitored and overseen by our county’s District Attorney’s Office, and Amicus House was one of the first treatment providers certified through this program that is viewed as a standard throughout the state of California. Within the county court system, Lori works to educate judges and encourage them to allow addicts and alcoholics to enter residential treatment programs in lieu of jail time.  She is an active member of the recovery fellowship and believes treatment is a way to help others find the magic of sobriety.  After living a life of the devastation of alcoholism and addiction, recovery has given her a life she never thought possible.  www.amicushouse.com

Mark Lundholm

MARK LUNDHOLM (COMEDIAN/ACTOR/PERFORMER) From humble beginnings on the streets of Oakland, California, as a homeless criminal and mental patient, to a world-renowned entertainer, Mark Lundholm’s humor is a wild ride of challenges, changes and 2nd chances. Having performed in all 50 states and 10 foreign countries. including appearances on Comedy Central, Showtime, A&E, NBC, and CBS, Mark Lundholm’s pure, dark look at his past, and clever glimpses of the future make this funny man one of the best. Mark wrote and performed his own one-man show off-Broadway in New York City reaching critical acclaim, and in his spare time created the now staple DVD series 'Humor in Treatment' and the Recovery Board Game. Richard Seer

RICHARD SEER (DIRECTOR) previously directed Sonia Flew for San Jose Rep. An award-winning actor and director, he has directed and/or performed in over seventy productions at theaters in this country and Great Britain, including The Old Globe, Goodman Theater, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Huntington Theater Company, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, Edinburgh Festival, and Sybil Thorndike Theatre in England. On Broadway, he received the Theater World Award for his performance in the 1978 Tony Award®-winning production of Hugh Leonard’s Da. As its resident director, Mr. Seer’s Old Globe credits include Old Wicked Songs, Da, All My Sons, Blue/Orange, Fiction, Vincent in Brixton, Trying, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Romeo & Juliet, The Price, The Last Romance, and The Life of Riley. Mr. Seer has been Chair of The Old Globe/University of San Diego Graduate Theatre Program since 1993 and is currently The Old Globe’s interim artistic advisor.
