“Art is a visual prayer for the soul."
Wendy Beckett

Dear friends,

If you are like me, you might be doing a lot of praying these days, meditation, or just quiet contemplation, to calm the mind and focus on what’s right in front of us. Art can help do that.

Today we join thousands of nonprofits in #GivingTuesdayNow—a global day dedicated to communities coming together to raise critical funds for local nonprofits in response to the overwhelming need caused by the current pandemic. I hope you will join us in support.

If you have any issues or wish to speak with someone,
please contact Taylor Abbe at tabbe@montalvoarts.org

In the midst of revenue decline and rescheduled or cancelled events, we are choosing to highlight the exceptional ways our community is coming together creatively. We have had established artists, like former Lucas Artists Fellows Stephanie SyjucoKristina Wong, and Christine Wong Yap, as well as people like you and I, join together in an effort to provide masks for essential workers. Whether it’s the innovative repurposing of cereal boxes through interdisciplinary artist Imin Yeh’s bias tape mask, or the collective efforts of talented seamstresses from our own Montalvo Service Group: creativity is what has brought us together, to take care of ourselves, our friends, families, neighbors, and beyond.

Montalvo remains committed to our mission to act as a catalyst for exploring the arts and engaging the community in the creative process. Especially now as we look to the tradition of local giving, #GivingTuesdayNow is more urgent than ever. This is our hour of need. If you are able, please join others and consider giving a gift of any size today to help sustain Montalvo through this critical season. We are truly grateful for your thoughtful support!

With deepest gratitude,

Angela McConnell
