We hope you continue to remain well in these trying times
and that you are able to enjoy all the comfort, stability, and optimism your
situation allows.
It is with great regret that we must inform you we are no longer able to offer housing for Summer Dance Program. This decision has been made in conjunction with our residential partners at Boston University and Lasell University and with the safety of our staff and students at top of mind.
While we cannot offer our residential component, all SDP students have the option of attending the program as a commuter. With student health and safety in mind, modifications will be made to class sizes and curriculum in accordance with governmental recommendations and regulations at the time of the program.
Furthermore, understanding that many of you will no longer be able to join us in-person, a virtual option will be created for this summer so that all students still have the opportunity to receive as much of the Summer Dance Program experience as possible.
See below for all the options available to both commuter and residential students. You will also find more information about our virtual option. Please fully read all options before moving on.
We hope that local students will still join us this summer and help us celebrate our return to live, in-person classes.
If you are from out-of-state and will no longer be able to utilize the housing option you had arranged, we hope that you will take advantage of our virtual option (see below). If you will be unable to do so, we understand that you will need to withdraw from SDP.
You are invited to attend SDP as a commuter student, although we understand that this will not be possible for many of you. If this is the case, we hope that you will take advantage of our virtual option (see below). If you will be unable to do so, we understand that you will need to withdraw from the program..
If you would like to become a commuter student, we would be delighted to have you with us for the summer. While we ask that you make us aware of these intentions by filling out the Enrollment Status survey, we understand that it may take time for you to explore housing options. Therefore, we will be able to receive final confirmation of your ability to commute as late as Friday, June 5. If you are not able to make it work, you will be able to withdraw at that time for a full refund.
While we work on creating a virtual option for this summer's program, we want to have the specific needs and interests of our students in mind. Therefore, we would like to hear from you about what sort of virtual content will be the most useful and successful.
If you would be interested in participating in a virtual option, please complete this survey by the end of Thursday, April 23. Your input will help us put together the best possible virtual program.
Because Boston Ballet School will be operating with a reduced staff from April 27 through May 25, we will be releasing the details and the pricing of our virtual option on Friday, May 29. Once all details and pricing have been announced, students will have until Friday, June 5 to make a final decision. If students choose to withdraw at this time, they will still be eligible for a full refund of all payments made.
For those of you who will no longer be able to attend SDP, we ask that you consider donating a portion of your tuition refund back to Boston Ballet. As a not-for-profit organization, donations always play an important role in helping us provide world-class programming and education. And as a result of the current situation's effect on our spring season and summer programming, these contributions will prove to be even more critical for the future of Boston Ballet. We understand many families find themselves in difficult financial situations, so any amount is appreciated.
If you are unable to make a donation, full refunds will be issued. This will include the value of the initial non-refundable deposit as well as all payments made since then.
The Enrollment Status survey will allow you to let us know how you would like your refund to be handled. Please allow up to 4-6 weeks for refunds to come through. While we will be working to get money back to you as quickly as possible, Boston Ballet School will be operating with a reduced staff from April 27 through May 25.
We are deeply disappointed that we are unable to run this program as initially planned. It was not an easy decision to take this tremendous opportunity for growth - not only as dancers, but as people - away from so many of our students. However, we find solace in the knowledge that staying apart is the best way to ultimately stand together and to ensure our ability to get back in the studio as soon as possible.
Boston Ballet is a non-profit organization dedicated to making a quality dance education available to children and families throughout New England.
