Grants Office Webinar: State Capital Projects Grants-in-Aid
Wednesday, May 12 - Online: 1 p.m. (CT): Applications are now being accepted for the State Capital Projects Grants-in-Aid Program. Local or county governmental units, cities, school districts or other public entities, can receive a minimum matching grant of $10,001 to help offset the costs associated with capital projects for public buildings. The Grants Office will hold a virtual Grants Office Open House on Thursday, May 6, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. (CT). in order to provide support to our community in this time of social distancing. We encourage people to RSVP to Gillian by email with a short summary of what you want to talk about and she will send you a link to speak directly with the specialist in our office who will be most helpful.
Small Grant Deadline

Pelagie Faribault's Island: Marriage, Land, and Resistance in Early Nineteenth-Century Mni Sota Makoce

Sibley Historic Site/Dakota County Historical Society - In treaty negotiations with the U.S. government, the Dakota granted Pelagie Faribault ownership of Wita Tanka in 1820. The story of Pelagie, her family, and what happened to Wita Tanka helps tell the history of Dakota resistance to U.S. expansion into Mni Sota Makoce, and the ways that private acts (like Pelagie's marriage) had an enormous public consequence for all involved. Crowdsourcing, Community and the Challenge of Institutional Leadership

Museum Association of New York - lead by Rob Fields, Former President & Executive Director, Weeksville Heritage Center, an historic house museum in Brooklyn dedicated to keeping the history of one of the largest free black communities in pre-Civil War America relevant and resonant for contemporary audiences. Elmer L. Andersen Research Scholars Program
The Elmer L. Andersen Research Scholars Program supports scholarly research projects using materials from the Libraries’ rare and special collections. Named for former governor and University of Minnesota regent Elmer L. Andersen, the new program honors the Governor’s passion for collecting and for expanding the use of the collections. The program is available to scholars including faculty, graduate, postgraduate, and independent researchers using the collections in the Department of Archives and Special Collections. This program is not available to currently enrolled University of Minnesota graduate or undergraduate students or UM faculty.
The program will provide support for research projects that require the use of one or more of the collections. Awards range from $500 to $2,000 and provide funds for travel, housing and other research-related costs. The final research product (e.g., journal article, documentary film) must acknowledge the Libraries’ support and be deposited with the University Libraries. Learn more »
The ASALH Book Prize
The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) awards an annual prize to recognize an outstanding book in the field of African American history and culture. Books must engage archives to be eligible for consideration, however, the book prize committee invites submissions from across disciplinary and interdisciplinary boundaries. Learn more »
