Arts In Your Classroom explores self-care / Black History Month conversation with hip-hop artist Dahlak Braithwaite / and a virtual Mardi Gras party for donors ...
For nearly a year, the coronavirus pandemic has caused an unprecedented crisis in the field of education, putting extraordinary pressure on teachers as they are tasked with mastering unfamiliar technologies and creating engaging, effective virtual classrooms.
These challenges, while magnifying the inequities in our school systems and society, have also raised concerns about the health and wellbeing of the educators working tirelessly to serve their communities.
That's why the focus of our 19th annual Arts in Your Classroom Conference on Saturday, March 6 is CARE: Compassion, Courage, and Creativity for Educators in a Time of Crisis. We will investigate why self-care must be a priority when caring for others, how it can be modeled in learning environments, and ways the arts can support integrating care into our curriculums. Together, we will share tools and resources from educators, artists, and others to enhance our wellbeing.
This is a great opportunity for educators to heal, connect, and recharge. Learn more below about the presenters and workshops, register, or apply for a scholarship.
We are celebrating Black History Month with artist Dahlak Brathwaite on Thursday, February 11 from 12-1pm as we bring him in for a conversation in the next episode of our virtual series Scratch Space.
Dahlak will share his journey of developing the theatrical work Adapting History into a film during the pandemic. Adapting History is an oral telling of American music through history and American history through music, using spoken word poetry to narrate the complex story of our nation. This musical chronicle shows that despite conflict and misunderstanding, we can still be brilliantly creative. Our in-depth conversation will explore how understanding our collective past can help us build a better future.
If you're a donor at the $500 Collaborator level or above, it's time to get your masks and cocktail glasses ready for an online celebration! You're invited to our exclusive virtual Mardi Gras, Masks, & Mixology party on Thursday, February 18 from 5:30-6:30pm.
You'll get a fun Mardi Gras themed gift bag, mingle with fellow donors and art enthusiasts, play some games and win prizes, and learn to make a cocktail with our own mixologist!
