FROM PROJECT INCLUSION TO GRANT PARK ORCHESTRA

Marlea Simpson, a junior at Oberlin College, jump-started her career as a professional musician when she auditioned for, and won, a position in the Grant Park Orchestra's viola section this spring, making her one of the Festival's youngest artists.

Her journey with the Orchestra, however, began in 2014 when she was accepted into the Festival's pre-professional training program, Project Inclusion, a partnership with the Chicago Sinfonietta for early career musicians, with a goal of increasing diversity among orchestra ensembles.

MILLENNIUM PARK PREPS FOR OVER 3 MILLION SUMMER VISITORS

Sunny skies, blossoming flowers, and the increase in the number of visitors flooding the streets of downtown Chicago are sure signs that warm weather is approaching, but for the team at Millennium Park, it's time to get the Park ready for the 3 million visitors it expects to see this summer.

What preparation goes into getting the Park ready for the summer? Hear from Jay Pritzker Pavilion's sound designer Jonathan Laney and learn more about free summer events in the Park by clicking on the link below.

VOLUNTEER WITH THE FESTIVAL THIS SEASON

Immerse yourself in the sounds of classical music underneath the beautiful Chicago skyline and volunteer with the Festival this summer!

Festival volunteers welcome and assist patrons at information areas throughout the Park during concerts and open rehearsals by distributing program books and audience surveys, answering patrons’ questions, and helping with front of house set-up and clean-up.

Prospective volunteers must attend one of our volunteer orientations, held on May 19 and 24.

SWITCH ON SUMMER AT BUCKINGHAM FOUNTAIN

On Saturday, May 7 from 4-7PM, Festival sponsors ComEd and the Chicago Park District are hosting a summer kick-off celebration at Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park!

The first 100 people to visit the Festival tent will receive a free CD from the Grant Park Orchestra. Our docents will also be on hand to share facts about the Festival, and visitors will have the opportunity to win reserved seats to our Independence Day concert.

This family-friendly event will feature live music and an opportunity to connect with some of Chicago's most popular organizations. We hope to see you there!
