Dear friend,
At first glance, “resistance” and “growth” look like opposites. But as we go, from Vine to Flowers (or on Google Maps, from 230 Vine Street to 5212 Market Street), we appreciate that resistance to things-as-always, to the silencing of our stories, is the foundation from which we grow.
You, our community and family, have made this possible. A peek at our year in resistance together:
We resisted with laughter and play. We resisted with our neighbors.
We resisted with soil and seeds. We resisted with our Black and Brown youth and farmers.
We resisted with attention and movement. We resisted with our activist forerunners.
We resisted with gumballs and comic books. We resisted with our tender Black masculinity.
We resisted with full plates of lumpia and chicharon. We resisted with our ancestors.
We felt so loved when over 200 friends, old and new, showed up for our Housewarming at 5212 Market in August. The space feels more colorful and alive with every new artist and visitor, and we feel so excited about what we’ll accomplish in this space, and beyond, in 2023.
As we approach a new year of resistance and growth, please consider supporting us with a one-time donation of $50, $100, $150, $200 or more
OR
An on-going sustaining gift to The Painted Bride with a monthly donation of $10, $20, or even $30 dollars. Click to donate here.
Thank you for being here and growing with us every step of the way.
In community and resistance,
Laurel
P.S.
We still have one more celebration at 5212 Market Street on December 30th to wrap up the year with Bobby Zankel and the Wonderful Sound 6. We wanted to end the year with a bang, and we couldn’t think of a better group to do it with. Bobby Zankel and the Wonderful Sound 6 brings their innovative sound to celebrate the victories of 2022 and determination for 2023! You can order your tickets here.
