VISIBLE FICTIONS: PHOTOGRAPHY AND ARTIFICE

SEPTEMBER 19, 2026 – FEBRUARY 21, 2027

Drawn from the Collection, Visible Fictions: Photography and Artifice challenges the idea that photography records reality impartially. Through staged scenes, constructed environments, performed identities, and invented narratives, the featured artists present photography as a medium of invention rather than straightforward documentation.

With works by Sophie Calle, Renée Cox, Gregory Crewdson, Thomas Demand, Tania Franco Klein, Nikki S. Lee, Cindy Sherman, Laurie Simmons, and others, the exhibition explores how photographs shape, rather than simply reflect, the world around us.

Children ages 5 – 12 and their grown-ups enjoy a 15-minute tour followed by an art workshop. 

Discover the rich artistic traditions of Latin America through works from South America, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Explore how artists express culture and identity, then create your own artwork inspired by the Norton's Collection.

September: Say Goodby to Summer

3 – 4 pm (7 – 12th grade)

Join us for an accessible art workshop for children with autism and their families.

Experiment with watercolor pencils as you create postcard designs inspired by your favorite summer memories. Explore color, personal storytelling, and Florida's natural landscape while capturing the sights and feelings of the season.

Join Shannon Walker in the galleries to sketch from the Norton’s Collection. Get drawing tips, connect with fellow artists, and explore various techniques. Bring your own sketchbook (size limit of 11 x 14 inches) and pencils only.
