How do you write a review of an enigmatic play in which part of the point is the performer and audience come together in an intense, intimate, semi-improvisatory theatrical evening, after which they mutually agree to never reveal what happens in the play (or ever perform it again)?
Well, that's been the challenge to performers, audiences and theater reviewers alike, all around the world, experiencing White Rabbit Red Rabbit, by Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour.
But Michele Markarian did an admirable job in a necessarily short and sweet review for Theater Mirror after seeing Broadway veteran Mary Callanan's one-night-only performance in The Umbrella Black Box. Nimbly avoiding spoilers, she concludes, "Like a good piece of literature, White Rabbit Red Rabbit will stay with you, as will its author, whose voice is present throughout,” and closes with the teaser, "I leave you with this line: 'How often will conformity control your thoughts, my rabbits?'”
Find her full review here and other non-spoiler audience reactions on our WRRR spotlight page here.
Performances continue tonight 10/19 with Norton Award-winner Anthony Pires, Jr. (Tuck Everlasting), 10/21 with director Michelle Aguillon (Middleton Heights, Dracula) and 10/27 with director/choreographer Ilyse Robbins (Lizzie).
