Helmut Jahn exhibit, Family Tours and Open House Chicago volunteer opportunities
Helmut Jahn: Life + Architecture is a new retrospective honoring the late Chicago architect and style icon, opening July 23. The exhibit showcases more than a dozen designs, illuminated by photography, models and sketches, that define an eclectic and prodigious career. Included are signature early projects like the Michigan City Public Library (1977) and the pioneering but polarizing J.R. Thompson Center (1985), as well as more contemporary landmarks like Berlin’s Sony Center (2000) and the Pritzker Military Archives Center, currently under construction in Somers, Wisconsin. At the same time, video interviews and written recollections from those closest to the architect help portray Jahn the sportsman, the fashion connoisseur and the family man. Life + Architecture celebrates Jahn’s talent and charisma, as well as his stunning body of work that is sure to inspire generations to come.
