Hey there,

The festive season might be sneaking up on us, but there's still plenty to enjoy before the tinsel takes over. Here's what's happening at The Glasshouse in November. 

The next BBC Introducing from The Glasshouse event takes place on Thursday 13 November, with SwanNek as the headliners. It'll also feature performances from Ellen Beth Abdi and Phantom Bagman.

Our Jazz North X The Glasshouse Artist Development Day is fast approaching, taking place on Wednesday 19 November 2025. Featuring sessions on creative practice, radio, touring, and sustainable music careers - with opportunities to network, collaborate, and create music together. Book a free ticket to secure your place! 

Just a reminder that our final BAPAM clinic of 2025 will be on Friday 21 November. If you have a performance related health problem, book a free appointment and chat to Dr. Fairfax - a BAPAM and NHS GP with a special interest in performers’ health.

Opportunities

Open House | Play

An open invitation to all to join in the creation of spontaneous sound in a spirit of community, curiosity, and play. Come regularly or pop in for a one-off session of improvised music, rhythm and voice. If you have an instrument, or anything you'd like to make a noise with, bring it – if not, then just bring yourself, Let's play and make some noise!

When? Every Tuesday from 7pm - 9pm throughout November and December at Cobalt Studios, Newcastle upon Tyne

Apply To Play SXSW

Applications for SXSW are now open. There are many ways you can get involved with the festival, including applying to play, talk, curate or screen. SXSW is an annual festival celebrating the intersection of music, film, and technology - held in Austin, Texas, and expanded with SXSW London to bring the same creative spirit to the UK. It will take place between March 12-18, 2026.

Musicians Call out: Bradford Markets

Bradford Markets are looking for people part of a choir, singing group or something similar to perform every day at their Christmas Market from 7-14 December 2025.

Beckview Presents Series

Beckview Presents and The Lounge are offering artists and bands the opportunity to record a live session at their studios. This is a curated series of professional live recording sessions, designed to capture artists at their most authentic.

EMM Festival Call Out for Performers

Lewis University and Kansas City Kansas Community College are pleased to announce an international call for submissions for the 24th Annual Electronic Music Midwest Festival, featuring guest performer Mary Hubbell, to be held March 13-14, 2026 at Lewis University.

Next Up (Generator)

Generator have partnered up with Nrthrn Baby, a Newcastle based Music and Culture agency championing underrepresented genres such as Rap, R&B, and Afrobeats in the region, to give you Next Up - the ultimate songwriting camp. Applications are now open for the next cohort. If successful, you'll leave with 16 hours of studio time across the weekend, a fully mixed and mastered group track, a music video for the track and a PRS membership. 

Applicants must be available for Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 November 2025

Apply to play: The Great Escape

Submissions are now open to perform at The Great Escape Festival, taking place from 13-16 May 2026 in Brighton. The Great Escape welcomes artists from every genre and every corner of the globe. It offers a unique chance to showcase your talent in front of thousands of music fans, alongside 450+ emerging acts performing across 30+ venues. You’ll also have the opportunity to connect with the influential industry figures who come to TGE each year in search of the next big thing.

Funding

Black Artists Grant

The Black Artists Grant offered by Creative Debuts, a global art platform, is a no-strings attached financial support to help Black artists. Grantees can spend the funds on whatever they want – be that make new work, buy equipment or materials, travel, research, visit exhibitions or conferences, or to even just cover some life expenses.

Creative Scotland Open Fund for Individuals

The Open Fund for Individuals is one of Creative Scotland’s key funding programmes. It’s meant to support periods of research, development, or delivery of specific projects by creative practitioners in Scotland. Freelance and self-employed artists and creative practitioners living in Scotland who are at least 18 years old are eligible to apply.

Creative Steps for Individuals

Run by the Arts Council of Wales, this fund supports artists who have experienced barriers to accessing funding – specifically, creatives who identify as being ethnically and culturally diverse, Deaf, disabled or neurodivergent. Some of the activities they fund include training courses, mentorship, business development and even setting up a new organisation.

Early Career Promoter Fund

The Early Career Promoter Fund by PRS recognises the vital role independent promoters play in supporting the talent pipeline across England, and offers grant funding of up to £3,500 and capacity building support, with the aim of bolstering the local, regional and national ecosystems.

The White Pube Creatives Grant

Intrigued by the name? This fund is run by two creatives and provides a one-off £500 payment to a working class creative practitioner. It has no-strings attached, offering financial support to help them in everything from buying materials to doing research and paying bills. Creatives of all disciplines are welcome to apply.

BLiM Connect

Blim Connect is a four-month mentorship programme designed to support early-career creatives from marginalised communities. This initiative will provide tailored guidance, career development, and industry insight to empower participants to progress confidently within their chosen fields.

Sustaining a Music Making Career

Join We Make Culture for an evening of candid conversation with four experienced musicians, discussing the balance between writing and releasing original music and sustaining a career in the industry. Part of We Make Culture's Next Steps programme, the panel is made up of: Paul Smith (Maximo Park), Ruth Lyon, David Brewis (Field Music), and Cortney Dixon.

Oram/100 X L.A.Ds Experimental Electronic Music Workshop

Cobalt, L.A.D’s collective and the Oram Awards are excited to bring you a workshop on DJing and experimental electronic music. Come along for an afternoon of exploring DJing from the very basics to creative looping, and a hands-on introduction to live electronic music from a very special guest. Experience is not a requirement – this opportunity is open to all women, non-binary and gender expansive folks who love electronic music and would like to learn, improvise, meet like-minded people and make some noise!

From Strangers to Superfans: Cultivating Your Fanbase

Konnakol Workshop

Step into the vibrant world of Carnatic rhythm through Konnakol- the South Indian art of vocal percussion. This workshop, led by experienced practitioner Prathap Ramachandra, is designed specifically for percussionists and drummers who may not be familiar with Carnatic rhythmic traditions but are eager to expand their rhythmic vocabulary.

Changing Gear: Railway 200

Changing Gear is Yorkshire Sound Women Network’s programme supporting emerging women and gender-diverse music creators based in Yorkshire and the Humber to push creative boundaries. To coincide with this autumn’s Railway 200 celebrations – three musicians working across a range of genres have been exploring the sonic possibilities of the railways and York’s status as a key railway city, and will perform their works across an immersive loudspeaker array.

Sound Scotland: Free Online Composer Support Calls

We Are Free to Change the World: Ready

We Are Free To Change The World is a new series of three Dash Cafés exploring how artists and creative activists respond to the urgency of our times. Through performance, film and conversation, each event, chaired by Dash Arts artistic director Josephine Burton, brings together creative voices to consider how we act – and how we do this together. The first event in the series explores the conditions that help artists and creative activists find their ground.
