Reflections from CEO, Katie O'Kelly

Dear Patron,

I’m always a little sentimental at the end of the year, reflecting on the highs, the lows, the small moments, the big moments, and everything in between. As I look back on this past year, I’m incredibly grateful to serve as the CEO of this amazing organization. I truly wake up every day thankful to be here and excited to see what the next day will bring. This doesn’t feel like a job — it feels like a part of who I am.

I’ve always wanted work that was bigger than myself, and SCCT is exactly that. Our small but mighty staff creates a space where more than 40,000 young people and their families can build core memories together — where young people find their confidence, their voice, and their people. It’s a place many students call “home” or their “safe place,” and I never take that responsibility lightly. I’ve always dreamed of helping create a space where young people feel safe, seen, and truly themselves — a home away from home — and SCCT does just that.

This time of year often brings cards, notes, and small gifts from people we work alongside and collaborate with. I’ve been incredibly lucky to receive many this year, but one, in particular, stopped me in my tracks — a letter from one of our students. Over my three years at SCCT, I’ve shared countless conversations with this student: about math tests, upcoming Beta Club meetings, navigating awkward moments at school, ways to improve our Teen programming, and even my favorite Broadway musical and why. His letter brought tears to my eyes, because it so perfectly captured the organization I dreamed of leading, growing, and protecting — and the exact experience I hope every student has here.

“Thank you so much for letting me do what I love. Because of you, I get to make theater and feel completely myself in a way I don’t anywhere else. The way you show up with so much love and kindness never goes unnoticed, and it really means the world to me. You’ve created a space where I feel safe, supported, and free to express myself — and that’s honestly the best gift anyone could give.”

As this year comes to a close, I hope you’ll consider making a gift to SCCT so we can continue transforming the lives of students — creating spaces where they feel completely themselves in a way they don’t anywhere else. This organization is truly special and the greatest privilege of my career. It’s not just a theatre; it’s a place where we’re nurturing future leaders, doctors, lawyers, engineers, Broadway artists, and neighbors. I see these young people every day, and they give me so much hope for our future.

Wishing you a very happy holiday season with your loved ones. I look forward to seeing you at the theatre in 2026.

With gratitude,
