WELCOME
Hello Patrons and Friends!
Welcome to the September newsletter for the University of Richmond Museums! We welcome EVERYONE back to campus and back into the museums. We've missed seeing our community patrons these past two years due to the pandemic protocols, and we are so excited to open our doors to everyone once again. Come and see our three new exhibitions: Duane Michals: The Portraitist, 2022 Annual Student Exhibition, and Therefore I Am: Portraits from the Joel and Lila Harnett Print Study Center.
Please join us in congratulating Richard Waller! After 32 years, Richard is retiring from his position as Executive Director. Richard has grown the museums into a thriving department that supports and enhances the University's educational mission serving our students, faculty, and staff on campus, as well as providing an invaluable resource for the greater Richmond community. Richard has organized and curated hundreds of exhibitions and mentored countless students in their endeavors to explore careers in museums and in the arts. Richard's legacy will be celebrated in November when his capstone exhibition Swan Song: Celebrating the Permanent Collection opens.
N. Elizabeth Schlatter is serving as the Interim Executive Director. Elizabeth has held the position of Deputy Director and Curator of Exhibitions for the past 20+ years, and she will continue to lead the Museums' staff in providing excellent exhibitions, programs, and opportunities for the campus community and the public to enjoy.
Our Lora Robins Gallery is currently closed to all visitors and will remain closed for two years, due to an exciting renovation connected with renovations occurring in the Boatwright Library. More information will be shared in future newsletters as things progress. But in the meantime, all educational resources linked to that museum and its collection are still available (e.g. Museum in a Box). For these resources as well as for any other items related to class or group visits (University classes, K-12 classes, homeschool groups, and any other group), please contact Martha Wright at mwright3@richmond.edu.
We hope to see you in the galleries and at our programs this semester. Remember to stay up-to-date by checking our website before your visit. We are looking forward to reuniting with old friends and meeting new ones in the upcoming year. We are forever grateful for your continued support and patronage!
