A New Partnership

We are honored this spring to launch our new partnership with The Capri theater! Our co-production of All American Boys, based on the award-winning book by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely, runs at The Capri from April 29 through May 22. The story follows two high-school boys, one black and one white, as their lives powerfully intersect after a violent act of racially motivated police brutality. The production is directed by Theo Langason and Cody R. Braudt, who cast the show in late February after auditions at The Capri. Rehearsals start on March 14. Centering this story in the heart of Minneapolis was a priority for Stages. Presenting the show in partnership with The Capri in their newly renovated space at 2027 West Broadway allows for the storytelling to reach a wider community audience. BOOK YOUR TICKETS ONLINE TODAY! Tickets can also be purchased at The Capri one hour before the performance on the day of the show.

Sensory-friendly Spring Programming

We continue our sensory-friendly programming this spring as a part of our commitment to removing barriers for everyone to enjoy the wonder and benefits of theatre arts participation. Our sensory-friendly performances and CAST (Creative, Accepting, Sensory-friendly Theatre) education program for ages 7-17 are designed for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, or other sensory, social, cognitive disabilities or mental illness. Tuck Everlasting, What Do You Do with an Idea?, and All American Boys, each have a sensory-friendly performance scheduled this spring. Show modifications include house lights remaining on, loud sounds and intense lighting being minimized, limited audience to allow for movement throughout, and a take-a-break space. We provide fidgets and noise-cancelling headphones and offer social stories and plot summaries in advance. Spring CAST classes run Saturday mornings from April 9-May 21 at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. To register for CAST or book a ticket to our sensory-friendly performances visit our website or call our box office at 952-979-1111, option 4.

Spring Training Boot Camps

On April 4 we kick off our Spring Training Boot Camps for grades 5-12. These training camps offer students who are age-eligible to audition for our main stage productions a chance to hone their auditioning, singing, and dancing skills. Audition Techniques covers prepared monologues and songs, cold reading and singing, dance auditions, and callbacks. Students get a chance to do a mock audition and receive comprehensive feedback. In Singing and Dancing Technique students work on technical song and dance skills and each student receives one hour of private voice lessons. Classes meet twice a week for five weeks at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. Registration is now open. Class size is limited.

Also, check out our spring classes for Kindergartners thru Grades 3!

Spring Productions

Our main stage is busy this spring with productions running from now through May. Tuck Everlasting, TYA opened on March 4 and runs through March 20. Based on the classic book by Natalie Babbitt the musical asks the eternal question: What if you could live forever? Our world premiere musical adaptation of the award-winning book What Do You Do with An Idea? opens on April 8. The charming production explores the journey of an idea and the power of our imaginations to change the world. The show runs through May 8. Then opening on April 29 is our production of All American Boys at The Capri theater in Minneapolis running until May 22. We are excited to have such a jammed packed spring and hope that you can join us at the theatre.
