This year, as part of our mission to be a home for new work made by and for the people of this city, we’re throwing open the Everyman doors with more opportunities for you – the theatre makers of Liverpool – to exchange ideas, develop your craft and make work.
First off, we’re running two new initiatives to give you money and space to create:
- Supported Studio will offer three companies the chance to put on a week of shows in the Playhouse Studio, with dramaturgy from our New Works Associate and a mixture of direct and in-kind financial support – and is open for applications from today!
- Seed Commissions will give writers the chance to pitch a new play in response to prompts and provocations from the Artistic team, with £1,000 on offer to three playwrights to develop their idea.
Many of you have asked us about opportunities for continuing professional development, so we’re now running monthly Production Process workshops, where members of Everyman & Playhouse staff share their expertise – as well as Open Houses to offer regular meeting points with different teams here.
Finally, with so many artists we meet craving meaningful and sustainable creative networks, we also now host monthly Creative Co-working sessions for focussed peer-learning, resource sharing and community-building.
And that’s on top of our continuing work with writers through the Playwrights’ Programme and Open Submissions, space to develop new plays in the Writers’ Room or in the Playhouse Studio through Spare Room, and opportunities to meet local freelance artists and E&P staff more informally at our regular Freelancers’ Mixers.
There’s more information about all this and more on our website.
Really looking forward to all these new opportunities to connect with you over the coming months.
Tommo
New Works Associate
We’ve got a paid workshop coming up today with writer for stage and screen Sally Abbott, plus two free Production Process workshops available for booking.
All taking place at the Everyman Theatre.
Sally Abbott, writer of lobal hit BBC Drama The Coroner (not to mention Vera, Call The Midwife and many more), will be tracing the journey of a TV show from the kernel of an idea through to the greenlight – and giving you the tools to develop your own series.
Attention Grabbing: Building a vibrant marketing campaign
with members of the Everyman & Playhouse Marketing Team
Thursday 29 May, 2-3.30pm
From designing assets to writing copy, utilising social media and working with PRs, our marketing team will explore how to communicate the brilliance of your show with confidence and creativity.
Getting Booked: Approaching programmers and building tours
with Ashlie Nelson (Head of Producing and Programming)
Thursday 24 June, 2-3pm
When’s the right moment to email a programmer? What makes a great tour pack? How do you get the best deal? Ashlie will draw on her experience across multiple organisations to help you sell your show to venues in the best possible light.
There are regular ways you can meet us, and other artists, across the year.
We’re running:
- Creative co-working
- Open houses
- Workshops with Everyman & Playhouse staff
- Freelancers’ mixers
The next co-working day is for producers – from 11.30am on Thursday 5 June.
I’ll be there initially with some prompts for discussion, but then will leave you to it! So grab a pal and come down to meet, chat, rant, plot and dream together.
The final date before we go dark over summer is 3 July, from 11.30am. This one’s for all artists!
These monthly drop-ins are a nice, informal way to meet different members of the Everyman staff in the Everyman Street Café, introduce yourself and ask any questions you may have.
Next up, members of the Events team will be available to chat from 1-3pm on Tuesday 13 May.
The topics of conversation are totally up to you, but this team specifically would be well-placed to discuss:
- hiring our space Downstairs at the Everyman
- putting on events with us
- negotiating commercial agreements with buildings.
June’s Open House will be with our Marketing team, who can talk to you about all things communications.
Sign up for our next Mixer, which will be Friday 13 June, during previews for The Walrus Has a Right to Adventure.
This’ll be a good one for anyone with an interest in new writing and experimental staging – plus all the usual joy of meeting new artists in Liverpool, having free wine, etc.
As usual, we’ll try to wrangle a member of the creative team to come and chat – and remember: you can book a £10 ticket for the show on this night by using the code MIXER10.
For those who haven’t spent time in it, the Writers’ Room is available for your use. With a library of fantastic scripts, it’s a great place to come and be inspired, do some co-working, or get round a table to read a new play.
You can either email me to book in advance, or just come to the Everyman and chance your luck! During open hours, the Writers’ Room is there for you to work in peace and quiet.
Did you know we have discounts for theatre professionals in the Everyman Street Café? Well, we do!
You can get 10% off food and non-alcoholic drinks if you’re a paid-up union member of BECTU, Equity, Independent Theatres Council, Musicians Union, Stage Directors UK or the Writers Guild.
And if you’re in the building for any of our regular New Works activity (e.g. Creative Co-working), you’re eligible for the discount too.
You've received this email as you've told us that you're happy to hear from Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse theatres.
