Dear CSO Latino Alliance Members,

I hope this letter finds each and every one of you in good health and high spirits. As a new CSO season begins, I write to you with an overflowing sense of excitement and anticipation. The time has come to gather once again and share something truly extraordinary. I invite each of you to embark on this upcoming Nuestras Noches season as we prepare for an unforgettable 10th anniversary.

Music, as we all know, possesses the extraordinary power to stir emotions, uplift spirits and transcend the boundaries of time and space. I love this art form because it unites souls, extends beyond language and cultural barriers, and resonates deeply within our hearts. We, Chicago Hispanics/Latinos, can showcase our orchestra and share the enjoyment of something truly special.

The 10th Season of Nuestras Noches promises to be a celebration of passion, talent and the unyielding pursuit of excellence by the CSO. As an affinity group, the CSO Latino Alliance will craft events to complement concerts that will leave our audiences inspired. It is in this shared experience that we find camaraderie and the pure joy of creating something far greater than the sum of its parts.

I ask each of you, regardless of your role as a member, to join us for this thrilling musical adventure.

Tuesday, October 24 ¡Noche de una Obra Maestra Méxicana!

A night of a Mexican masterpiece! | Gershwin & Bernstein

Join us for the first event of the 2023/24 Season:

Enjoy networking, refreshments and a preconcert presentation exploring the evening's program and the larger context of performing arts in Mexico. Latino Alliance founding member Dr. Jesús Del Toro will discuss music by Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas and his Chicago connection, and the Sones de México Ensemble will share a short musical performance highlighting the African presence in Mexican folk music and culture. The CSO concert that follows will feature an exuberant melding of styles, including Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and Revueltas’ joyfully raucous Sensemayá.

The Black Music of Mexico series

The Black Music of Mexico is a captivating series of live performances and conversations exploring the presence of African culture in Mexico. African-influenced styles of Mexican music to be explored include son jarocho, mariachi, chilenas and son de artesa.

World Dumpling Fest 2023 presented by the Chicago Cultural Alliance

The CSOA presented a trombone quintet at the Chicago Cultural Alliance's World Dumpling Fest on September 9 in Logan Square!

The trombone quintet is led by the Civic Orchestra of Chicago’s Civic Fellow Hugo Saavedra, and features Diego Daza, Peter Deal, Felix Regalado and Robyn Smith.

Hispanic Heritage Month 2023

Hispanic Heritage Month, which began on Sept. 15 and runs through Oct. 15, honors the contributions and influence of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the history, culture and achievements of the United States. To celebrate the occasion, members of the CSO Latino Alliance offer playlists of related recordings, some featuring the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Center Presents artists. In addition, features about Latino composers and guest artists from present and past seasons.
