After school and Saturday matinee performances for your young artist

Introduce your budding jazz musician, hip hop dancer, "bun-head," or theater lover to world-class artists at the Harris Theater. Two Harris Theater Presents series designed for younger audiences begin in October – enough time for you to plan your family calendar. 

The 6pm MIX at SIX series, four weekday performances of jazz or dance, is geared towards teenagers and young adults. The Exelon Family Series Saturday matinees are designed for children (ages 4-12), though all ages are welcome. Each of the three Family Series performances also includes American Sign Language interpretation. Both series offer an opportunity for the audience to engage with the performers.

HT's MIX at SIX series single General Admission tickets are $15! A season pass for all four after-school/work performances is $30. Single tickets for the Exelon Family Series start at $10. Nuttin But A Word

Rennie Harris Puremovement will present the suite Lorenzo "Rennie" Harris developed for his company's 25th anniversary. In Nuttin But A Word Harris outlines what he calls the Three Laws of Hip-Hop: individuality, creativity and innovation. Harris says "there is nothing about these laws that suggests that we as practitioners of the form should only adhere to its foundation.” The suite concludes with the audience favorite Students of the Asphalt Jungle – a show-stopper at the 2016 Chicago Dancing Festival.

Rennie Harris Puremovement (RHPM) encompasses rich and diverse African-American traditions of the past while simultaneously presenting the voices of a new generation. RHPM deconstructs popular perception of hip-hop, expanding and challenging the boundaries and definitions of this medium to honor its history, explore its ideas, and further its contributions to the surrounding community.

In the talented hands of the New York-based The Hot Sardines, music first made famous decades ago comes alive through their brassy horn arrangements, rollicking piano melodies, and vocals from a chanteuse who transports listeners to a different era with the mere lilt of her voice.

Choreographer in Residence Brian Brooks premieres his newest work performed by his New-York based contemporary dance group. Commissioned by the Harris Theater as part of his multi-year residency, Brooks rises to his signature challenge to suspend the limits of the body and the imagination.

Brian Brooks brings his New York-based company of eight dancers to perform a lively program created especially for the Harris Theater's family audiences. A pianist will join the company on stage for excerpts from Brooks' newest production, reimagining classical works by Chopin.

Share the wonder of dance with your entire family as American Ballet Theatre presents ABTKids, a special, one-hour performance designed to introduce young audiences to the magic and beauty of dance. The performance is narrated by a member of ABT's Artistic Staff and features child-friendly highlights from the Company's vast repertoire.

Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah is a two-time Edison Award winning and Grammy Award nominated trumpeter, composer, producer, instrument designer and music executive. Scott’s Grammy nominated international recording debut, Rewind That, was called “arguably the most remarkable premiere the genre has seen in the last decade” by Billboard Magazine. Scott's synthesis of New Orleans jazz, alt-rock, and hip-hop is called "Stretch Music."
